This story was inspired by the song Attack by 30 Seconds to Mars. I own nothing. Swiftpaw and Brightpaw belong to Erin Hunter as well as the other cats of Thunderclan.

"Come on Brightpaw! There is nothing here!" called Swiftpaw.

"Swiftpaw, be careful, please!" called his companion Brightpaw. Swiftpaw turned around to face her and he said "Nothing is here see?"

As soon as Swiftpaw had uttered those words something big came crashing out of the cave at Snakerocks. Swiftpaw and Brightpaw hissed and their pelts were brisling.

Brightpaw turned and bolted away but stopped when she realized Swiftpaw hadn't fallowed. She ran back and saw Swiftpaw hadn't moved from his spot.

"Run away, Swiftpaw!" she cried but Swiftpaw didn't move.

"No! I will attack!" he yelled and leaped up and scratched four long slices down the dog's flank. "Swiftpaw!" Brightpaw called but her friend was fighting for the clan, and she needed to attack too.

She screeched and launched herself at the dog. She had slammed into the dog's side. The dog howled and turned to attack her but Swiftpaw leaped up onto its back and dug his claws in. The dog twisted and turned to try to get ahold of Swiftpaw, but it couldn't.

Just when it looked like Brightpaw and Swiftpaw were winning, two more dogs burst through the forest. Swiftpaw jump of the dog and together we ran away from the dogs. We ran over a couple of hills and then skitted to a halt. Large boulders blocked our path.

We turned around to see the dogs coming over the hill, snarling and barking. Suddenly Swiftpaw ran forward and towards the dogs.

"Run!" He called over his shoulder. "I can't leave you Swiftpaw!" Brightheart called as the dogs got closer.

Swiftpaw looked back and yelled "Run now Brightpaw!" he turned around but before he could move a dog picked him up and tossed him a one of the boulders. Brightpaw charged forward to help her fallen Clanmate but the dog was faster.

"Pack, Pack. Kill, Kill!" the dog called and the dogs ran forward. One rammed into Brightpaw. She was knocked away like a rag doll and then the largest dog leaned down and clamped its jaws around Brightpaw's head.

"No!" yelled Swiftpaw as he watched his friend get lifted into the air and thrown back onto the ground. "Brightpaw!" he yelled as he jumped in front of her. The dogs walked closer.

Brightpaw, half-awake watched as Swiftpaw launched himself at the dogs.

Flash Back

"I promise you that we'll be Warriors soon, Brightpaw." said Swiftpaw as he watched Cloudtail get his warrior name.

"I believe you, Swiftpaw." Said Brightpaw and they ran out the thorn tunnel and towards Snake rocks.

End of Flash Back

Swiftpaw landed next to Brightpaw, his body beaten and battered.

She wasn't sure what made the dogs not finish their kill, and she never would. The dogs had left.

"Brightpaw… I'm sorry. I couldn't keep my promise. Good bye." Unable to move I watched as Swiftpaw laid his paw on top of mine and his eyes grew dim.

His body went through one final spasm, and then it lay still. Swiftpaw…

Several moons later

"Good night, Brightheart." said Cloudtail as he lay next to Brightheart. "Good night Cloudtail." she said as she closed her eyes.

"I promise you…"

Brightheart opened her eyes and looked around the den. Everyone was sleeping. She sat there for a minute and lay back down and closed her eyes.

"Goodnight, Swiftpaw…" she said as she drifted off into sleep.

Unknown to everyone, another cat entered the den and sat next to Brightpaw on her other side and whispered "I promised you, you did become a warrior, and I am sorry…" Then the cat faded into the night and went back to the Stars.

He would wait for her. And protect her from the troubles the clan faces in the future.
