Making First Impressions

Yokozawa had, it seemed, been more nervous than he needed to be. Per his own request, Kirishima hadn't actually told Sakura's parents that they were dating, simply that Yokozawa was a family friend who had helped them out quite a lot. They knew Kirishima was absolutely hopeless in the kitchen, so when they got in and found Yokozawa in the kitchen, making dinner while they waited for Hiyo to get home from a club, the grandmother actually looked relieved.

"How did you two meet?" she asked, being the only other one in the kitchen besides Sorata, over in the corner observing. "I don't recall you being around when Sakura was still with us."

"I ah-" Yokozawa paused for a moment, thinking it through. "I work in the sales department at Marukawa. So I've known Kirishima-san from a distance for a while now. He approached me himself one day."

Sakura's mother seemed a bit puzzled by that, and she was about to ask another question when the door clicked open. Kirishima had gone to greet his daughter, but as soon as she got her shoes off, she launched herself into the kitchen and hugged Yokozawa.

"Oniichan!" she said with a huge smile. "Papa said you might not come tonight 'cause you were afraid what Grandma and Grandpa would think of you."

Yokozawa pressed his lips together as he sent a death glare Kirishima's way. The recipient just grinned and shrugged, so Yokozawa turned back to Hiyo. "Go wash up. Dinner's almost ready."

"Okay!" She bounced out of the room to wash and change, and Yokozawa was left with Hiyo's grandmother, who was smiling at him.

"You're very good with her, aren't you?"

"I ah, suppose so."
