Goren moved his piece and then looked at his companion.

Isabelle McCarthy, the newest detective in Major Case, you would have never guessed.

She was only 25 years old, but looked ten years younger. She was also short, only standing at 4'11. She had brown curly hair, which she usually hid under her short-brimmed fedora. Her brown eyes scrunched in concentration as she moved her piece and took his.

"Ha." she said with a smile making Goren smiled back.

He started noticing her after she and her partner, Roberta Berg, solved a case with a religious fanatic who killed his entire family. Isabelle was a lot like him; incredibly smart and very emotional. She was very calm when she interrogated the suspect, almost like stone. However, after they solved the case, he found her drinking in a bar with a tear stained face. He has to give her some praise, she knows how to separate work from home. He sat next to her and they talked; becoming instant friends. They decided to meet every Sunday at the park to play chess together, as they were doing now.

"So," Isabelle said "Have you asked Eames out yet?"

Goren stiffened and shook his head. He doesn't know how Isabelle knows, but apparently she could read people well; seeing the magnetism between himself and Eames. He wish though that she wont bring it up; he still has conflicting emotions with that issue.

"Don't start, Isabelle."

"Oh come on, Robert."

That was another thing; she never called him Bobby. She always calls him Goren at work, but outside, she always calls him Robert.

"Robert, it's so obvious you two dig each other, I could feel it."

Goren rolled his eyes from her choice of words moved his piece, making Isabelle move hers.

"Robert," she continued with a softer tone, watching as he moved another piece, "Life is short. You have to make chances and make certain choices. Because then, you're going to realized that all you did was wasted time."

Before Goren could respond, Isabelle took his king and said with a smile, "Checkmate."
