Hello, hello. I did promise that I would post again if some new plot bunny popped up, and here it is! For those who read this story ages ago there's probably no need to go back and re-read everything; it's just an out-take from Ending part 1 and Ending part 2: Clary and Jace's marriage!

It's short and it's sweet and I hope to hear your thoughts at the end.

Enjoy. xx

It took longer than either anticipated to walk down the aisle.

From the moment they had told their family and friends, Clary and Jace were the topic of much gossip, particularly because Clary wanted to do everything herself. After the success of Isabelle and Simon's engagement party, no one doubted Clary couldn't pull it off, but after two years of no nuptials, Isabelle and Maia were getting antsy. Finally, they staged an intervention.

"Clary, this is getting ridiculous! How hard is it to set a date for your wedding?"

Clary looked up from her laptop and stared at Isabelle's frustrated face. Maia was looking at Clary in a similar manner. As much as Clary loved having the two girls over for an all girls night, there were some things she didn't love and being nagged at was one of them.

"And I've told you, me and Jace aren't in any rush to get married. It's just a piece of paper," Clary was tired of this argument. She had it with her own mother often enough. "Besides, the moment we decide on the date, you two will be the first to know. You're going to be my bridesmaids after all."

Despite their disapproval over the lack of a date, Maia and Isabelle always lit up at that statement from Clary. It was obvious the two girls were excited. Maia and Jordan had been married 15 months ago and the two girls wanted another marriage.

"Actually, speaking of bridesmaids, we should start to consider what dresses you two will be wearing," Clary said thoughtfully. "I haven't given it much thought actually."

Maia and Isabelle both frowned disapprovingly. "It's not our dresses we should be worried about Clary. It's yours! Do you have any idea how long it takes to choose a dress?"

Clary smiled and shook her head. "No, but I'm sure you're going to tell me."

"6 months!"

"Almost a year!"

Both girls spoke at the same time and Clary just smirked. "Trust me, I know exactly what kind of dress I'm going to wear."

Isabelle scoffed and Maia shook her head and the two girls shared a meaningful glance. Finding the perfect dress could be a nightmare.

"Speaking of dresses, Simon actually brought me a gorgeous one last week," Isabelle commented.

Clary looked up at her friend and smiled. "Have you worn it yet?" she asked.

Isabelle shook her head. "I haven't had the occasion to. He told me to wear it to the party this weekend."

"That sounds nice," Maia said. "Jordan brought me a beautiful purple one last month. I haven't had any where nice to go to wear that either."

Clary looked between the two girls and smirked. "So this is what I have to look forward to. Instead of pretty little bras and skimpy nighties, when I'm married Jace is going to go all boring and buy me dresses I can't even wear?"

Maia picked up a pillow and threw it at her. "You're never getting married at this stage, so your barely there bras are going to keep piling up," she snarked.

Isabelle began to laugh and Clary narrowed her eyes. "At least the sex is still great," she muttered.

The truth was, Clary and Jace were quite happy with where they were in their relationship; they had done their fair share of travelling the world and Jace had even opened up another restaurant. This one he had named in Clary's honour: Fray's By The Bay. Fray's was about a 2 hour drive up the Coast and Jace went by once a week to ensure things were going smoothly.

It was now a few months past the two year mark since Jace had proposed, and talk of their marriage was a regular accompaniment to their evening glass of wine snuggled up on the couch. Neither wanted anything big or flashy and they were both content with having a small get together with a civil celebrant to wed them. Neither of them were susceptible to the nagging or verbal nudges of their family and friends and were willing to wait until getting married didn't feel like a chore or something they needed to do to keep the masses happy.

Like everything else they did these days, they were going to do it in their own time and in their own way.

Saturday the 17 September dawned just like Clary knew it would. It was sunny with a sweet breeze ruffling the jasmine bush outside her bedroom window, and even better Jace was kissing his way along her face to her lips. She smiled and stretched her legs out, cracking her toes. With a throaty groan she murmured "Morning," before tilting her face and meeting his lips.

They kissed softly and slowly, both used to their morning ritual before getting out of bed. Jace had once told her that tasting her first thing in the morning made everything else he ate in the day taste so much sweeter knowing she was on his lips. Clary had retorted that was because she had morning breath, but Jace had never once forgotten to give her a morning kiss.

"Do we have to go today?" Jace murmured huskily as he rubbed his nose against her cheek.

Clart smiled and turned to face him, planting a soft kiss on the tip of his nose. "You know we do. We're expected to be there." They had made plans with their family and friends to meet at a small park for lunch. Clary lifted her head and looked at the clock behind Jace. "In fact, we'd better get a move on. Isabelle and Maia are going to be here soon and the boys are going to help you set everything up."

Jace rolled over onto Clary while yanking the covers over them. "We have time," he muttered as he kissed his way down her eyes to her lips and then down her neck. Clary just laughed as he moved lower, and finally gave in with a sigh as his tongue did something special to the junction of her neck.

Isabelle and Maia turned up at 11 along with their respective partners. Simon, Jordan and Jace spent half an hour moving food from the kitchen down to Simon's car while the girls lounged about gossiping. They didn't get to see each other much these days which is why Clary and Jace had planned this get together for everyone. They were leaving on a two month holiday next week and wanted a nice way to see everyone.

Clary had asked Isabelle to plait her hair which the other girl was more than happy to do. As Isabelle's fingers deftly moved through Clary's mass of curls, Clary watched Maia apply a liberal coating of nail polish to her toes. Both girl's were wearing the pretty summer dresses their husbands had brought for them, but Clary was still in her sleep things.

Finally the boys had finished moving the food from the kitchen into the waiting car and Jace kissed Clary on the lips before he left to help the boys set up. "See you soon," he murmured.

Clary nodded and closed the door behind him. Isabelle had declared that they should all have plaited hair for the lunch and was now in the midst of parting Maia's hair for two cute side pigtails. Clary left them to it and headed to her room to get ready for the lunch.

It was rare that they could get everyone together for lunch, and she was looking forward to the rest of the afternoon.

Clary had popped open a bottle of champagne before they left knowing that they were going to be catching a cab to the park. Now she sat fingering her phone and staring out the window while Maia and Isabelle compared the benefits of being married, clearly trying to rile Clary up.

As they pulled up to the park, Clary could see her mother and Maryse chatting, Magnus standing out like a disco ball as he tried to brush Alec's hair with his hands, and some other friends huddled around a table where food had been spread out. Clary quickly paid the driver before stepping out and scoping Jace out. He was standing at the edge of a gazebo talking to an older woman. He saw her and winked before gesturing to the woman that he would just be a moment. Clary heard him call out to Simon and Jordan.

Clary grabbed Isabelle's and Maia's hands and looped them through her own. "Let's do this," she said cheerfully as she led them towards their boys.

Clary knew the three girls were a striking picture. Maia in her purple dress that clung to her curves and ended above her knees, Isabelle in her blue dress that danced around her thighs as she walked, and Clary in her white strapless maxi dress that she hadn't yet tripped over.

It didn't take long for the three girls to reach their partners and go their separate ways. The moment Jace got hold of Clary he gave her a spine tingling kiss and then wrapped her up in his arms. "You look beautiful," he said against her skin.

Clary smiled and pulled herself away from him. "Shall we get this started then?" she asked, as she looked around for the woman Jace had been talking to.

Jace walked away from her and headed over to Simon and Jordan who had taken Maia and Isabelle to get a glass of wine from a table. Clary watched as he gestured to Clary, and then Isabelle and Maia made their way towards her.

"Jace said you wanted us?" Maia asked as they arrived. She was holding two glasses of wine and handed one to Clary.

She smiled and gratefully took it. "Stand over here with me. Jace needs Jordan and Simon's help with something," Clary took a sip of her wine and glanced around. "It's a good turnout. I'm glad everyone was able to make it," she commented.

Isabelle nodded her head in agreement. "We're all going to miss you two while you're off backpacking through Asia." If Clary noted a hint of jealousy in Isabelle's voice, she didn't say anything.

The older woman Clary had been looking for walked toward them with a wide smile. Jace, Simon and Jordan followed behind. "Ready?" she asked.

Clary nodded her head grimly. Jace gave her a warm smile and came to stand beside her. Jordan and Simon stood on his other side. Isabelle and Maia gave each other confusing glances and Isabelle turned to look at Clary. "What's going on?"

Clary motioned for her to be quiet. "You'll see," she murmured as she watched the older woman clap her hands and call the attention of everyone around them.

"Ladies and gentlemen," she began. "I welcome you here today to witness the marriage of Jace Lightwood and Clarissa Fray."

Clary counted down in her head. 3...2...1...

Isabelle punched Clary in the arm, Maia gasped, Magnus let out a rather undignified squeal that sounded a lot that "What?! No!", Jocelyn turned to glare at Clary and Maryse clapped her hands together and exclaimed "Finally!" Everyone else just looked confused and gave uncertain smiles... Except Jace who was grinning like the cat that got the canary, Simon who looked smug and Jordan who was rubbing his hands together in glee.

Finally, on that beautiful September Saturday, all their scheming and secrecy was revealed for their friends and family, and Clary Fray became Mrs Clary Lightwood.

Clary and Jace had decided that they didn't want an extravagant wedding. They didn't want the fanfare or the excessive money spent. They wanted something simple with their friends and families and they wanted it to be intimate. The fact that it was a surprise to everyone except Jordan and Simon – whose help Clary had needed in getting Maia and Isabelle's bridesmaid's dresses, and whose help Jace had needed in setting up – made the whole day more special to them.

It was a surprise wedding that no one would forget any time soon, and it was a wedding exactly like Clary and Jace wanted without their family interfering. A week later, the newlyweds went on their long planned honeymoon through Asia.

Together the two of them lived happily ever after.

Except Magnus. Who was thoroughly annoyed that he hadn't been clued into the wedding plans and gave the new couple the cold shoulder... until the announcement that Clary was pregnant with a girl, and then he spent an extravagant amount of money buying glittery headbands for his Goddaughter.

So now we know the story of their wedding.

:) I hope you enjoyed this. Has anyone else ever done a surprise wedding? I have a friend who did something like this and it was simply perfect.
