A Walk To Remember

Mr. Darcy walked out of Netherfield Park. It was early evening and he, Bingley, Carol Bingley, and Mr. and Mrs. Hurst had just arrived. Bingley and the rest had decided to take a rest before the evening meal but Darcy was too wound up to sit still, he decided to take a walk to clear his head.

He walked along the road that led to the house until he came to a field. It was bright with daisies, and Darcy leaned against a tree and drunk in the peace and tranquility. In spite of all their faults, there was something to be said about the tranquility of villages.

Elizabeth Bennet cut through the fields on her way back home. She had been visiting with her friend Charlotte Lucas at Lucas Lodge. She'd run away from home to escape all the talk about the new tenants at Netherfield Park only to discover that it was even worse at the Lucases, as Sir William fully intended to be among the first people to meet Mr. Bingley. He seemed to think that that was a very great honour, somehow.

Everyone was going on and on about how he was single and rich and of course how he was bound to have rich and single friends. 'What a fine thing for our girls,' her mother had said.

Elizabeth only hoped that Mr. Bingley and his sisters and friends would make for interesting studies. She loved to study people.

She was so lost in her thoughts that she stumbled over a protruding root.

Darcy was dozing lightly when he heard a noise near him. He looked up and saw a young woman bending over the tree.

"Thank goodness," she said when she saw him. Her foot was stuck.

Darcy continued staring at her; she had the most bewitching eyes he'd ever seen and instead of getting up to help, he just stood staring at her. She was something to look at.

"If you don't mind," she said, "your assistance would be greatly appreciated." She pointed at her foot.

"Of course," he replied walking towards her and helping her dislodge her foot.

"Thank you," she told him and smiled."I'm sure I've taken up enough of your time, so I'll be on my way."

She walked over to a wooden fence and climbed over it gingerly and disappeared.

As she entered the house, Elizabeth wondered to herself who that man had been. She had never seen him before in her life and she knew everyone in the village. Maybe it was the mysterious Mr. Bingley, the new tenant of Netherfield Park. Most unlikely, she told herself, why would he be sitting in an empty field when he had a perfectly good house of his own nearby.

I should have asked his name or at least where he was staying, she thought to herself. I wonder if I'll see him again.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.
