AN: I've been doing a lot of prompts today! Here is one with the Prompt: Weave a story/scene around the cliché "drown your sorrows".

Drown Your Sorrows:

He didn't prefer to drink in public. He preferred to sit in the quiet of his house, alone in the study, surrounded by his books. He didn't have the strength to deal with people today. Who gets married right out of school? He supposed he shouldn't have been surprised. He always knew they'd end up together. It was clear why people loved her; beauty, tenacity, passion, caring, thoughtfulness, and the way she was unique from all other girls. But him; her… husband. What could anyone see in him? Arrogant, boastful, cruel, spiteful, greedy, a show-boater. The list could continue (and probably would as the fire whisky jar emptied). Why would perfect Lily ever love James Potter?

Severus stared into the fire, not feeling, he had reached the desired state of numb. In the end the intellectual didn't get the girl – the show-off egotistical Quidditch captain did. Severus liked this feeling of numbness, of not feeling. He vowed to himself that he would cut off his heart; the pain of feeling was too much.

And tonight, on their wedding night, Severus would drown his sorrows until the world slipped away.
