"It's not going to work, you know," he said, folding his arms and staring at her with a defiant expression on his face.
"Oh? And why is that?" she asked scathingly, taking a step forward to put her face by his. He rolled his eyes.
"Must I explain everything to you?" When she didn't continue, he let out a sigh. "Allow me an explanation. Six months. Six months, that's all the time it took for me to make myself get over you. Force you from my mind and force myself to get on with life." He then let out a ruthless laugh. "You never did get it, did you? Why I gave up on you?"
"You never gave up on me," she whispered, a hint of desperation creeping up in her voice.
"I kept it to myself. I didn't want to show you that you had won. I didn't want to allow you that satisfaction to know that you were right and I was wrong. So I'm sorry, but don't expect me to believe you now."
"Please- James-" Lily stepped up on her tiptoes and hung onto the front part of his robes, her deep green eyes searching his hazel one's. He pushed her hand away.
"I'm sorry," he said bluntly. "But I refuse to let you get the better of me this time." He turned around to walk away.
"Listen," Lily said, grabbing James' arm and trying to pull him around. He merely shrugged her hand off and continued down the hall, shoulders slumped in defeat.
"But I love you," Lily said quietly, her voice carrying down the hall. She thought she saw him pause briefly. He turned around and gave her a sad smile.
"I love you, too," he said. "What a shame yours isn't true." Lily stopped, not quite sure what she was to do next. She could barely stand to see him this way, all broken up inside. Without another though, she hurried after him, catching him on the shoulder and spinning him around. His eyes widened in surprise as her lips met his, sweet and soft.
"Who says I don't love you?" she said softly.
Em, so just a little one-shot that I wrote out of boredom. Hope it isn't that bad.
