Flower gleam and glow,
Let your power shine.
Severus Snape was walking through his little house, looking from artifact to artifact. He was restless and needed relief from his own mind. Harry Potter was in more danger with each passing day and with Dumbledore dead, it was going to be harder to help the boy. He'd played his part well over the years, but now he wanted to give up. The potion was ready on his bedside table. He wanted to leave this life forever; to go back to his flower.
Make the clock reverse,
Bring back what once was mine.
He paused in front of an old photograph. The picture was starting to fade slightly from old age, but the two faces smiling back at him were as happy as ever. Lily and Severus, age 11. They were about to be sorted when the photo had been taken and Lily's vivid green eyes were smiling and dancing with life as she teased her best friend.
Heal what has been hurt,
Change the Fates design.
His eyes filled with tears and he whispered, "I hurt so much without you, Lily. I want to see you again. That's why I must do this." He picked up the potion and sat down on his bed. He was shaking slightly, "If the Fates wish to take you, they'll have to take me too." Severus brought the potion to his lips, but before he could drink it, a familiar voice echoed in his head, "He has her eyes. You remember Lily's eyes, don't you?" Harry Potter had his mother's eyes. And her spirit. And her kindness. How could he have been blind to it before? Harry was more Lily than James, so how could he be so selfish and leave the world before his job to Harry was done? How could he let the last piece of Lily die?
Save what has been lost,
Bring back what once was mine.
Severus lowered the vile of potion. He couldn't do it. There was too much at stake. Lives were at risk, people were dying, and it had to end with a boy. And that boy needed the man that had almost given into his pain and torture. Harry needed Severus. Lily needed Severus, and he refused to disappoint her again. He'd lost her once, and he refused to let the last tidbit of her disappear.
What once was mine.
"I love you Lily," Snape whispered into the darkness.
