Fall
"Lucy it's time for breakfast!" my mom called up to me that Monday morning in fall. it was September. The incident had happened just a few weeks ago.
In my comfortable bed I turned on my side.
"Lucy you have a half hour lets go."
I had a hard time waking up usually so the fact that I was this morning wanst so unusual.
A knock came on my tall wooden door.
"Go. Away," I told whoever it was.
"Hey it's me ya comin down?" my older brother Simon asked.
Oh.
"Oh. No I'm not hungry."
"Lucy you need breakfast we all do."
"I didn't ask for your opinion," I was annoyed.
"Sorry."
"It's, not your fault it happened it's just easier to blame someone else."
"Yeah I know. That's why I drink," Simon told me.
"You drink because of me?"
I was surprised and a little hurt.
"No. i drink cuz I can't take away your pain."
"Oh."
I was relieved.
"Ok I'll go tell mom and dad."
That I wouldn't be at breakfast.
"Thanks."
"Sure."
He left closing the door behind him.
This would be a day just like any other. Simon would tell mom and dad he was driving me to school but instead take me to the library, church or an abandoned house which had become my hideout. Since it had happened. 'it' being the incident. This was what we'd agreed upon. Then, at the end of the supposed school day, he'd come pick me up. This had been going for months. I was surprised they hadn't caught on but also expected it. 'they' being my parents. To keep them from knowing I wasn't at school during the day Simon made sure he was home to answer the phone when they were at work. He deleted the calls from our caller id. We both knew if our parents talked to my teachers my parents would know something was going on and they'd argue. Which was the last thing I needed right now. Simon also drank endlessly.
