Just a Game

"But don't think it's gonna last. Tomorrow, it's game on!"

"And I'll be ready to play."

Game on... When had it all just become a silly game? A challenge, a joke, a contest even! When did she begin to enjoy her fights with him? When had her feelings began to change?

But most importantly, when did Danny Phantom stop being her enemy?

She thought it might have started when they were trapped on that ghost hunter's island, and he helped her escape with her school project mostly intact. But the truce they'd developed then was destroyed when he had revealed her secret to her dad. So when?

Well, she had been considering letting him help the town himself when she began dating Danny Fenton. But then he had destroyed her suit, which she could have been in. Which got rid of that option.

She supposed it was when she met Danielle. After seeing how much he cared for her, she knew deep down that he really couldn't be evil. He was too sincere. But she pushed the knowledge away, and focused on getting information.

Then she found out the truth about the young girl she had captured – She was still human. She was still alive.

She knew then that she couldn't let the poor kid be killed, and agreed to help Phantom. And as she watched Phantom throughout their adventure – Sneaking into the Fenton's lab, almost calling Mr Fenton 'Dad', warning Vlad (who's secret she obviously already knew) that he wasn't there to fight, and being incredibly upset when he thought Dani had died... - It was obvious he had some human left in him too. Which meant that she couldn't hate him anymore. At least, not as much. Because if he was still somewhat human too, then maybe he wasn't as evil as she had thought. Maybe he really was trying to help.

Her trust grew that night, so much that she had let the ghost kid go, and even told him about how it was all just a game to her now. And he agreed.

Maybe all it had ever been was a game. After all, someone all wonderful and adorable as Dani couldn't ever like someone evil like she had supposed Danny Phantom was. It just wasn't possible. So maybe he was always just playing with her. He certainly seemed stronger as he fought Vlad, instead of when he fought her.

Had they ever really been enemies? Or had that all been in her head?

Regardless, she thought, chasing after the ghost kid while flying through the sky, She's glad that she could see their relationship for what it was, and may have always been.

Just a game.

Stupid shortness of stupid stories! Why can't I ever get these stupid things to actually be long? Stupid, stupid muse! Curse you!

Regardless, this is a plot-bunny that's been haunting me for a long time. Everytime I see D-Stabilized, it keeps bugging me. I finally gave in, so it would just leave me alone.

Anyway, I'm SO not happy with this, but why don't you guys be the judge? Anyway, enjoy!

Penelope, over and out!
