I just really had only enough time to type this up, so obviously it means I didn't have enough time…

Happy Birthday Nate

"Wake up, Near," I heard as I opened my eyes to the brightness of the morning sun, a figure standing above me, his dark hair messy as usual, rings under his eyes darker also.

"L," I simply said as I lifted my arms so the older sixteen year old could pick me up gently before setting me on the ground.

"Do you know what's special about today?" L asked me as he picked out a new pair of white pajamas for me to wear that day.

"What?" I asked, rubbing my eyes sleepily.

"Today's your birthday, Nate," L smiled, as he produced a medium sized box from behind his back.

"I'm four," I stated as I took the box from him with awe, and slowly opened it up. Inside was a shiny red robot, not too fancy, not too bad either, but just right for me.

I stared up at L before I reached up on my tippy toes and wrapped my arms draped in my baggy white pajamas around his pale neck, embracing him tightly.

"Thank you L. You're the best. I love you," I said as I buried my face in his neck, as L returned the hug.

"You're welcome Nate," L said, his long lanky arms around me, surrounding me in a warm hug, neither one of us wanting to let go.

"What time is it now Gevanni?" I asked the black haired man as we exited the car to the cemetery.

"It is eleven fifty eight," he answered, looking down at his watch.

I nodded and we walked through the cemetery in silence, our feet stepping silently on the damp grassy surface before we got to a grave stone with a large cross on it.

Here lies L Lawliet

Born: October 31st

Died: November 5th

"What time is it now Gevanni?" I repeated, bending down before L's grave.

"Exactly midnight," Gevanni responded curtly.

"Thank you. May I have the thing I asked you to bring now please?" I asked, holding out my hand as Gevanni slipped me something cold.

I looked down at the bright red robot, the paint still perfect, the same robot L had given me on my fourth birthday, those many years ago.

"Look L," I whispered. "It's my birthday," I smiled ruefully as I gently ran my fingers against the robot's smooth metal exterior.

"It may be my birthday, but I just want to give this back to you, as something to remember me by," I whispered as I carefully placed the robot on L's grave before getting back up and turning around, Gevanni following behind me.

There was a slight breeze, and I could hear a voice. The same voice that woke up me years and years ago, to tell me, happy birthday, Nate.
