My apologies again. Hope this makes up for my absence in any way. Sorry if it's not up to par but the story must go on and hopefully the action starts soon. I know I can't wait. My love to you all who have been patient with me. It means a lot to me and every time I get a notification on my stories I feel I can't leave you guys hanging. I know what it's like to have a story you follow not be updated and I would hate to do that to you guys. Again, much love and enjoy. 3
Mike bemoaned the bank incident the ride over to the nursing home and as soon as they arrived Harvey practically leapt from the car before he strangled Mike. After paying the cab fare they stood motionless outside staring at the entrance.
"Why're we doing this again?" Mike began, hesitation creeping in.
"You wanted to visit your grandmother." Harvey responded. Still seeing Mike's uncertainty he continued. "And it may help us get back to normal."
Mike nodded still unsure but started to walk forward. They walked in to the lobby entrance and started making their way to the elevator. As they stepped into the elevator with a couple of other people, Mike began on coaching Harvey on how to behave.
"Easy there." Harvey interrupted. "I've got it. How hard can it be to pretend to be like you?"
Mike started again but was abruptly cut off again.
"Rhetorical question. Calm down, I've met her before. I've met you before. Please, give me credit. I'm just gonna pop in "Hey, how you doin'?" joke around, talk briefly, keep it vague and short. I'm a lawyer, have some faith." Harvey patted Mike's back before exiting the elevator as they had reached their floor.
Mike noticed the confused, slightly worried faces of the people they shared a ride with.
"Grandma is senile. She confuses me with my friend all the time." Mike lamely said before finally following Harvey.
"Look, I'm gonna take care of the bill. She's in room _. Please keep it short and simple." Mike finally departed.
Harvey walked into the rec room he was directed to when he was unable to find her in her room.
"Michael! What are you doing here?" Mike's Grandmother exclaimed happily at the sight of her grandson.
"What? I can't come see my favorite gal?" Harvey went in for a hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Oh, always the charmer. Martha, this is my Grandson I was telling you about." She turned to her friend sitting across from her.
"The hotshot lawyer?" Doesn't look like one" The ebony woman eyed him at full length.
"I certainly think so." Harvey made a jab at an absent Mike.
"You know I've got a grandson who's gotten into some trouble lately." Martha continued.
"You're not the only one." Harvey quipped to himself again. "But I'm not that kind of lawyer," He paused thinking to himself for a bit. "But for Gran here, I can do a favor." He handed her Mike's business card as payback for this whole situation.
Martha happily accepted the card before getting up to leave.
"Well, I'll leave ya two alone to catch up." She look pointedly to Edith, "And this isn't over yet." She laughed and hobbled away.
Harvey took a seat in the newly empty chair, contemplating the mahjong board before moving a tile.
"She's a firecracker."
"Oh, you have no idea. She gives the nurses more trouble than I do." She smiled moving a piece in reply to his move. "It's so good to see you but shouldn't you be at work? Michael. Did something happen?" She grew concerned, ready to start her round of interrogation.
"No, No, everything's fine. I just got the day off for doing a good job." Harvey chuckled at Mike's grandmothers endearing concern, glad that Mike had someone else who cared so deeply for him.
He made another move.
"Good." She relaxed. "You've got a great opportunity on your hands. I'm surprised though your hard-ass boss gave you the day off though. But I'm sure you deserved it." She gently gripped his hand on the table in motherly pride.
She reminded him a lot of his own grandmother. Always playfully teasing him as a child but showering him with love when he visited her. Taken away in what seemed to be too soon.
How hard it must've been for Mike's grandmother raising a boy fresh from tragedy while she herself had just lost her son and daughter-in-law. Harvey's own father struggled to raise two sons on his own, he could only imagine how it must've been for her.
Her frail hand lifted from his and he was brought back from reminiscence.
"Michael, you're losing your touch." She said somewhat worried.
Harvey blinked in confusion at her words before he noticed the game he had been absentmindedly playing. She had the lead on him. He wasn't too familiar with this game but knew the basics, just enough to get by.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She noticed his lost look. "Usually you hold your own. Is there something on your mind?"
Of course Mike was good at these games. He must've had plenty of plays memorized giving him an unfair advantage. Harvey wouldn't be able to keep a front of a formidable player so he opted something small that wouldn't have to get in to.
"Just a case I'm working on. Can't really talk about it." He lied.
She nodded in understanding.
"Well, if there's anything at all that you need you know I'm here for you." She smiled as she made another move. "Looks like you owe me five dollars."
"So how did it go?" Mike asked in an almost panicked voice as Harvey walked down the hallway.
"It went fine. Calm down. It went smoothly."
"Are you sure? How is she doing?"
"She's great Mike. She says 'hi' and you need a better wardrobe." He continued walking.
"She didn't suspect a thing?"
"How could she? It's not like our situation happens all the time."
Mike nodded, calming down a bit.
"I know, but I know how much of a dick you can be."
"What? You think so little of me you'd think I'd be mean to an elderly woman. Mike. I'm hurt." Harvey feigned being wounded.
Mike ignored this.
"Honestly, how is she though?"
Harvey stopped and turned to face him placing both hands on his shoulders for reassurance.
"She's great Mike. She worries about you, but I let her know you're doing fine. She loves you very much."
There was a pause and Mike smiled, partly because of his grandmother and another part because of…he wasn't quite so sure. Harvey looked at him with something he couldn't quite identify. A mixture of sad fondness that he wasn't sure why he was receiving and hadn't seen on Harvey's face even though it wasn't exactly his. It was strange and comforting that was familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
Harvey noticed his hands and the moment and coughed uncomfortably.
"Come on, let's go get lunch." Harvey shoved his hands into his pocket as he walked pass Mike.
