Fandom: Jake 2.0

Disclaimer: I'm just another fangirl! If the show had been mine, I'd probably have better things to do than spend many a sleepless night on FanFiction...=P

A/N: This is just a little fic I've had in my head for a while, so I figured there was nothing to lose by posting it. There will be more stories in other fandoms to come, but with school starting back up soon, it may be a while. Forgive me if anyone is OOC, it's been a while :)

Valerie Warner was always to the point. She never gloated or danced around questions, and when she gave orders, they were precise and without hesitation.

This was something Jake pondered as he and his colleagues sat behind the table, awaiting her judgment in regard to the nanite project. It was up to her whether the team would proceed with their work and remain intact, or be disbanded and the project terminated. They could all venture a guess as to what her answer would be, and it did not mean good news for any of them, most of all Jake. The group of scientists and armed men did not escape their attention.

"Given the evidence, it is in the NSA's best interest that the nanite project ends immediately," Warner's voice rang out with firm authority, "Everything that can be salvaged from the project will be, and my full disclosure has been given to proceed with any and all actions that will do so. Agent Foley is a liability with his powers, and has proven multiple times what a threat he can be. As soon as the full extent of the research is complete, the nanites must either be removed, or the host terminated."

"Do you mean-?" One of the scientists inquired without a hint of emotion.

"Yes. If the nanites cannot be taken out, you have been given a direct order to kill Jake Foley."

In the moments that followed, all hell broke loose. Kyle sent his chair flying backwards when he stood, looking ready to take on an army. Lou was suddenly in Warner's face, screaming at the top of her lungs, the chain of command forgotten. Diane buried her face in Jake's chest, failing to hold back the sobs that wracked her body as she clung to him like a life-line.

And Jake himself sat, staring straight ahead as the chaos raged around him, unmoving even as the men with guns approached him.

Warner always was to the point. He thought numbly.
