Flower of Spring

Bright. Green.

The first flower of springtime, with its iridescent, yellow petals shining from the morning dew, poked its head out of the thaw of snow that covered the field. Slowly, it rotated its leaves to face the morning sun, and the one gardener who tended the snowy field.

Of course, the first day of spring is usually the most annoying, because of a certain person who loves to fly, prance, and sing about spring, then mysteriously and rather conveniently, for those who keep their hands on their ears, or inconveniently, for those who wake up with a grouchy attitude, disappear. Though, not today.

"Ahh, what a nice, beautiful day to start speaking with a flower!" Yuuka Kazami, resident flower youkai, whom people should never ask for a flower bouquet, stretched her arms over her head while holding onto her signature umbrella. Today, she was at peace. Winter vacation had been a bit hectic, but at least she got to go back to her traditional sunflower field.

However, as by chance, she stumbled onto this very snow-covered field. By a whim, she stopped, as to let her eyes rest on the untainted purity of the snow, and heard the low whispers of a single flower. She waited, so very patiently, as if she had all the time in the world. She knew this flower, or seemed to have known it a long time ago.

Abandoning all pretenses of going to her field of sunflowers, she giggled and squatted in front of the flower, propping her head on her hands. Her umbrella stood stabbed in the snow, waiting for her to take it into her hands.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" she whispered to the now-growing flower. She reached with her hands, oblivious to the snow being crushed, and parted the frost from the stem of the-

"SPRING! SPRING! THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR HAS COME! TODAY, IT'S-"

"The greatest distraction of the season," Yuuka icily finished for Lily White, the proclaimer of spring, who came flying with all guns blazing, flower bullets flying, and a Yuyu Co. Omegaphone in hand, and stood up from her squat position, arms folded.

*Fwump* The Omegaphone fell onto the snowy melt.

*Fshh* The last flower-shaped bullet dissipated into the air.

"Y-y-Yuuka, I w-wasn-n't aware that you were h-here!"

"Shh! The flower is speaking!"

"W-what flower?"

"Look in front of you." Yuuka turned expectantly at the budding flower blooming on the ground, hands reaching for the umbrella of doom.

"Oooh, I see. A miracle of spring, in front of our eyes. We sure are blessed to have witnessed this today."

"Yes, we sure are," Yuuka agreed, and placed her arm on Lily's shoulder. The latter slightly squirmed under this action, due to the reputation that the former had as a sadist. Yuuka turned her head and placed her mouth near Lily's ear, and firmly grabbed her arm, pulling her close. She whispered gently,

"And why don't we celebrate this event with flowers, flowers, and even more flowers? Let us decorate the area with nothing but flowers."

Yuuka then let go of Lily, and turned back to the snowy field. "And, please, don't shout 'SPRING'. It's rather annoying, you know, and painful for the one to do so in my presence."
