disclaimer: I own nothing.
dedication: To sunshine, for making my (alwaysretarded) tan mostly even. THANKYOU.
note: I've stumbled across a lot of interesting next generation pairings lately. Oh, and my left eye is out of commission (…dammit.) so no contacts for three to four days.
note1: I usually go by my own rules. That being said, if something is not accurate, it's mostly because that's how I want it to be.

He finds her in the rain.

Ironic, yes, because she is Lily Luna Potter and she hates rain and getting her hair all messy but she is there, drenched and cold and angry and sad.

He knows why.

But instead of confronting her about it, he slides down next to her and wraps his already-drenched jacket around her shoulders and waits. It really can't do any harm, he thinks, even though it's wet and cold. He's intuitive, and he knows she will appreciate his gesture because he is Lorcan Scamander and he just knows Lily Luna Potter (his best friend for Merlin-only-knows-how-long) and he thinks that love is something weird because all of a sudden he just knows.

But he knows it's not really sudden; he knew it all along.

"I really thought I had a chance," she whispers.

Her voice is brittle, and he can't help but think no, this isn't how it's supposed to be because she's supposed to be laughing and he's supposed to be listening and everything is supposed to be okay.

He just wants everything to be okay.

"It's not your fault," he murmurs.

He is Lorcan Scamander and he is there, was always there, and he is comforting her because he is her best friend and she needs him and Merlin, he really does love her.

"It is. I let myself fall in love with someone who was always in love with my cousin," she says, her voice cracking.

Lorcan glances at her, taking in her tangled red hair and her pasty complexion and her glassy blue eyes. In his eyes, Lily is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen and he loves her.

"Remember when we were eight and I told you I loved you?" Lorcan asks, his voice low.

Lily sniffs, chuckling hoarsely. "Of course I remember. Mum caught a picture of you in the middle of it, and your face was smeared with chocolate."

Lorcan feels the tips of his ears burning pink but he smiles and continues, "Well, I still mean it. Even when you think everyone is against you, I'll still love you."

Lily's face turns an interesting shade of red as she mirrors Lorcan's relaxed smile and leans into him. "Yeah, I know. I love you too, Lorcan."

And they sit in the rain, one laughing and the other listening, and Lorcan thinks that this is really how it's supposed to be.

footnote: Scamander twins, ftw.
footnote1: I'm on a roll right now, lol. I'm gonna right more. R&R?
