Elements of a Love
*****

When you look into the waters of a river as it swirls past you, you can see the sky reflected. Sometimes it's soft and serene, others dark and clouded,
Sometimes deep and bluer than there are words for. Whatever light there is, whether sunlight or moonlight or starlight, shimmers across the surface. That's what it's like looking into his eyes.

When you stare at a flame long enough, it is there in your eyes even when you look away. The after-image can seem even brighter in the mind's eye than the flame itself. Flames are so alive. They move, they flicker, they burn as with a conviction. Conviction and energy so strong that you see it still when it is not before you. That's what it's like staring into his soul.

When you glimpse a songbird in the forest between the trees, it can catch your eye and fill you with happiness for just one instant to see how alive it is and how brave. It's so fleeting, so perfect, so wonderful, so honest. It's one moment of pure flight in a universe of infinity. You can never hold onto it for longer. That's what it's like glimpsing his smile.

When you lean your back against a tree, you can feel all the strength within it, stretching deep into the ground. It is so solid behind you. You feel that so long as the tree is behind you there is nothing in the world that could conquer you or it. It has a gentle power that will defend you and withstand anything. That's what it's like leaning againt his arms.

When you stand at the center of a summer rainstorm with drops of cool water running down every part of you, your heart rejoices at the completeness of it. There are flashes of brilliance, of lightning. There's deep sounds of thunder and power breezes that are beyond any spirit summoned. There's a smell of broken clouds and freedom. That's what it's like standing at the center of his love.
