"You know," the Doctor spoke softly, looking at the beautiful redhead in his arms, "Time Lords don't cry. Well, not much. And never in front of anyone."

He looked at Donna, seeing firstly his happiness reflected in her face, then taking in her flushed face and exhausted eyes. He spoke once more, still softly.

"But for you, little one," he looked down at their newborn daughter, nestled in his arms, "I think I can make an exception."

He looked at her tiny features, the hair just slightly browner than her mother's, and knew just how far he'd go to keep her, no, to keep both of them, safe.

He cried.
