Title: Roll the Dice

Summary: "I'm having an existential crisis, and you're flattered, that's just great! No wonder Kendall always wins. You clearly love him better!" James is insecure, Logan tries to appease him, and Kendall...well Kendall just wants to be left out of it. Slash.

Warnings: Language, as usual. And...I feel as though I need a warning for the level of insanity in this. Honestly.

"Why do I always lose! Always. And to Kendall, no less."

"James, shouldn't you be a little more concerned about—"

"That is neither fair nor accurate. I would so win. There is no way I would lose to Kendall, no fuckin' way."

Logan watched with a building sense of unease as James flailed around, trying to find words to support his argument. It certainly was an unusual sight to witness.

"You do realize what the 'prize' is, don't you?" Logan asked skeptically, his eyes wide. He almost wished he could make a mockery out of this entire situation, it was funny enough, but James seemed genuinely upset by the fact that he apparently, always, seemed to lose. "I don't think you actually realize what you're saying—"

Suddenly, James stopped his rapid pacing and quite literally stomped his foot on the ground like a petulant child. He huffed quietly and just stared at Logan with fierce hazel eyes, his hair sticking up in several different directions. If Logan wasn't so busy trying to suppress his laughter, he might have thought it was cute.

"That is not the point, Logan!" James said, clearly offended by the entire situation.

Logan simply blinked, and doubled his efforts in order to hold back the laughter that was trying so desperately to escape. "How is this genuinely bothering you right now? I honestly don't even know what to say to you. I think I'm flattered though, really."

James barely even glanced at him as he started stomping around the room all over again, his arms flailing back and forth and almost knocking over the shelf which held some tarnished, old hockey trophies.

Logan could only watch and hope that, by some miracle, he would be able to keep a tight reign on his amusement. Honestly, he didn't think it would be too wise to laugh right now, James might actually try to prove his point, and while Logan was truly flattered, he didn't think it should escalate that far...

...then again, better James than Kendall, huh?

"You're flattered!" James yelped, obviously taking great offense from that statement as well. "I'm having an existential crisis, and you're flattered, that's just great! No wonder Kendall always wins. You clearly love him better!"

"James!" Logan choked out. "Do you hear yourself right now?"

And without further warning or preamble, Logan's laughter consumed him. In fact, he nearly fell off the bed from the intensity of it all. This just was not happening, it was too priceless.

When he finally composed himself enough to glance up at James, he was met with fierce hazel eyes that shone all sorts of betrayal and other emotions that were completely inappropriate for this entire situation. Logan's laughter threatened to overwhelm him once more.

"Would it make you feel better if I told you that I would pick you?" Logan asked innocently, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. His voice was just a little rough, and he smiled up at James just trying to mollify his friend for the moment. It really was cute, Logan thought, the way James was getting so bent out of shape over something so—

"No!" James said indignantly. "You're lying, Logan."

"You can't be serious."

"Everyone knows you're closer to Kendall anyways, so don't even try to act like—"

"What are you even talking about," Logan interceded, suddenly serious as he watched James. "I always end up siding with you! Remember when we were writing the lyrics for 'Oh Yeah'?"

"Yeah, but we always fight, too, like that time with the shoes!"

"Why are we even having this discussion?" Logan asked, amused all over again and not even trying to hide it anymore. He could feel the corners of his lips tugging into a smile. "And why do you care so much!" Then as a side thought, "I cannot even believe I'm encouraging this."

Suddenly, James turned to glare at Logan, his eyes dark.

Logan wanted to laugh all over again, because James...looked like a fucking angry kitten, all disheveled and flustered.

"You don't believe me, do you?" Logan said fondly. He couldn't help but smile at his friend who was trying so hard to be be ominous and threatening, but failing so miserably at it.

When James shook his head, Logan stood from his place on the bed and walked over to James. Without even a single word, he grasped onto James' arm and pulled him into the living room where Kendall was watching the television.

"Kendall," Logan said as a greeting, not even looking at him, because he was too busy trying to keep James still. He seemed to be all hopped up on energy and adrenaline, and he kept trying to pull out of Logan's grasp to pace or flail his arms or something equally as damaging. Finally, Logan just put both hands on James' shoulders and physically held him in place. "Let's speak hypothetically for a moment, okay?"

"Oh-kay," Kendall said from behind him, enunciating each syllable in clear confusion.

"Alright, so hypothetically, let's say you were in love with me," Logan started, still struggling to hold James in place. Honestly, had he eaten an entire cup of sugar before this entire dilemma or...?

"Why on earth would we possibly be discussing this, even hypothetically," Kendall said, and by the tone of his voice, he was completely blown away by the topic as well. At least Logan wasn't the only one who thought this was a bit...unnecessary.

James just huffed and bounced a little.

"Anyways, so you love me..." Logan said again, his tone expressing just how little interest he had in this discussion. "And James loves me. Hypothetically, of course."

Kendall, seeming to understand the root of this entire discussion and where it was heading, groaned softly and pressed a hand to his temple. "James, are you kidding me, you actually—"

"Hypothetically!" Logan interjected quickly, because honestly? By the intensity of James' glare, he was kind of worried about Kendall's safety at this point.

Logan's attention quickly returned to James and he swallowed hard, not even believing that he was actually going to go this far to prove his point—to placate James. If James even tried to argue after this, Logan was going to maim him. Or something.

Then, completely locking all thoughts of objection out of his mind, Logan wrapped his hand in the neck of James' t-shirt and crushed their lips together.

James was completely motionless for about four and a half second, as though he was shocked that Logan would allow this entire situation to escalate to this level. Honestly, Logan was a little surprised himself, because there weren't many guys he would be willing to kiss in order to prove a point.

In fact, James might be the only guy.

Which was suspicious in and of itself.

And maybe the kissing part wasn't so bad either, Logan thought as he nudged just a little closer, prompting James to finally react.

It was pleasant in a way that Logan had never imagined. Not that he ever imagined this moment, kissing James...no, not at all.

But, then again, that was a lie. He'd imagined this moment a whole fucking lot, thank you very much, and he bit at James' lip just to show that enthusiasm.

After a moment, Logan could hear someone clearing their throat behind him and he growled softly into the kiss. Couldn't he have proved the same point without Kendall being there? Why in the hell had he dragged them into the living room in the first place? And, furthermore, what was his point again? He couldn't even remember what sparked this whole issue in the first place...

Oh, yeah. James' obvious insecurity. Back to that then.

"There," Logan said as he finally pulled away, his hands still clutching onto the neck of James' t-shirt. "You win, see?"

James' eyes were blown wide with disbelief which only added to the whole disheveled effect he had going on, and Logan couldn't help but smile. Who knew James could be so insecure, and really, that's what started this entire argument in the first place: James projecting his insecurities onto Logan.

"Are we done with this whole hypothetical scenario now? Can I go back to watching TV?" Kendall asked, sounding uninterested as his attention returned to the flat screen. "Go away."

Logan nodded fervently and kept his hold on James' t-shirt, tugging his still unresponsive friend right back into the other room...hopefully to pick up where they left off with that kiss.

Logan smiled and tried not to laugh as he heard Kendall mutter in the background, "Fucking fanfiction."

Author's Note: Alright, so there's absolutely nothing I could possibly say to justify this. I don't even know where it came from, honestly. Regardless, I really hope you guys enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it (because I really, really did).

I hope the entire plot (or lack thereof?) is clear enough. I have seen so many stories with James/Logan/Kendall love triangles, and that's kind of what prompted this story... The rest just twisted around and molded itself. Blame my Muse.

Thanks to everyone whose been reading! And I would absolutely love to hear what you guys think. What did you think James was talking about in the beginning?

Thanks again! :)
