In some form or another, I've always been here. I've always been watching you, watching over you. From the moment you were born until the day you disappear, I will be here, watching you.
I've seen you brutalize innocents in the name of a god they didn't believe in. I've seen you divided, just a piece of your former self. I've seen you unified, a potential world power. I've seen you strong and proud, a warrior to the core. I've seen you at the hands of an unforgiving master, just as I've seen you in the hands of a loving one. I've seen you in fear, weeping for forgiveness to an unjust god. I've seen you care for your people, love them and support them. I've seen you harsh and uncaring, cutting down others in the name of war and power. I've seen you gentle and caring, raising a young brother like your own son, allowing him to take your place. I saw you break off and begin to fade away. But always, I've been here.
I've seen you smile, I've seen you cry. I've seen you hide your true emotions behind rude gestures and bad manners. I've seen you pushing people away when all you really wanted was to pull them closer. Others may find you insulting and unemotional, capable only of pride, conquest, and egotism. I know better. I've seen the way you look at others, longing for closeness. I've seen the way you long to be a part of things again. I've seen the way you pray, desperate to redeem yourself in the eyes of your Lord. I see the way you write dutifully in your journal, maintaining a sense of ritual. I see the way you cherish things. I've seen your secret adoration for that which is cute and small.
So here I am, cute and small, watching over you still. You only just noticed me, but I've always been here. And I always will be. So even when you feel like there's no one there for you, Gilbert, there is. I will always be here-always watching, always caring.
A/N: I think Gilbird is amazing. He follows Prussia like he knows something we don't. :p And besides, what is fanfiction for if not a little bit of imagination to spice things up?
