What friends are for

The day that Jacob Carter was buried, it rained. It was the type of rain that makes you want to just stay in bed. That being said, it didn't keep most of the SCG, Tok'ra and US Air Force turning up to pay their respects for the retired Air Force General and member of the Tok'ra.

Sam was quiet for most of the day. Naturally she thanked people for coming and she and Mark had did a reading at the service, but other than that, she said very little. The only people she actually spoke to were, SG-1 and Mark.

The wake followed immediately after the service and, although there were lots of people there, Sam felt very alone. The people talking to her were just a blur; she didn't even remember talking to most of them. All she remembered was being very glad when Jack and the rest of SG-1 had told her that they were going to take her home.

When she arrived home, she wandered aimlessly into the living room before turning round to face the rest of her team.

"Do you guys want coffee? Beer?" She said, quietly looking at each of them in turn.

"Ah, Carter," Jack said, moving over to her and, with his hands on her shoulders, pushing her towards the bedroom, "You go and get changed into your pyjamas, we'll tidy up a bit, make the coffee and set everything up!"

"Set everything up?" Sam didn't even fight him.

"You'll see."

Sam went into the bedroom and changed into a tank top and some loose sweats before taking off her makeup, grabbing a blanket and heading back through to the living room. When he arrived in the front room she saw Daniel and Teal'c sitting in their usual chairs, drinks in hand, and Jack waiting by the sofa.

"Alright Carter, we have coffee, wine, beer, juice, hot chocolate, movies, hankies, sweets and company. All you have to do is decide what to drink, eat and watch!" Jack said, motioning to the coffee table.

Sam laughed slightly and looked at them all, smiling for the first time that day.

"You guys are awesome!" She said quietly. "All right, I want hot chocolate, chips and dip, and I want to watch...'Gone in 60 seconds'"

Jack laughed. Typical Sam, only she would watch a movie about cars at a time like this.

The team sat and watched movies until quite early in the morning before Teal'c and Daniel headed back to the SGC. Jack stayed to help clean up before he too decided to head home.

On his way out the door Sam grabbed his arm to stop him.

"You ok?" He said, putting his hand on top of hers.

Sam smiled. "I will be!"

Jack nodded then took Sam into his arms, holding her close to his chest. "I'm here if you need me."

Sam smiled against his neck. "Thank you sir. For everything."

Jack just smiled, nodded then headed for his car, glancing back ones before driving off.

The rain was still falling, but Sam felt, for the first time since her Dad died, that everything was going to be ok after all. And this time, she believed it.
