It should have been me

"Anakin is the father, isn't he? I'm so sorry."

As he turned and walked away from Padmé after figuring out his beloved former-padawan's secret, he thought,

'It should have been me.'

It should have been him bonded to Anakin for all eternity. It should have been him beginning a family with Anakin.

But now he was off to kill the monster that had done away with Anakin. Mustafar. That's where Grievous had sent the Separatists.

He knew he couldn't kill Vader. Not while he had Anakin's face. Anakin's voice, Anakin's mouth.

He could never kill him. Because killing Anakin would destroy him.

'I love you. I loved you all along. And I forgive you. For this. But never, never for her.'
