Mana-sensei's rant: I remembered how a lot of you still felt pretty uncomfortable about the age difference between Kakashi and Airi so that's one of the reasons why I increased her age in this rewrite. I decided to have them be 7 years apart. I will ignore any complaints about that from this point forward.
Also I haven't read Naruto in a while. And I'm not really up to date with it. But I honestly skipped to the end and accidentally watched the very last episode (thanks a lot Harry you mf). Spoiler alert; I cried.
I also drew the first cover thingy. It's been awhile since I drew Airi and I must say… I forgot how um, not pretty she is. But I made her prettier in the cover art I did because she's older and I'm just going to say she blossomed.
One more thing… this rewrite is pretty much an alternate universe mostly because so much shit happened in Naruto and I don't feel like catching up to that yet. I'm not mentally ready so start with the feels. I already tear up a little everytime I see anything Naruto related (besides fanfiction).
Disclaimer: Naruto does not belong to me. I'll try to be as original as I can. I make no promises though because I'm a terrible person -laughs maniacally (sadly)-
Chapter 2: Enter The Perverted Ninja
Airi stretched and let out a long yawn after she tossed her towel in the hamper. She walked over to her dresser and rummaged around her clothes for a baggy shirt. Her eyebrows scrunched together as she examined the shirt she fished out from her worn down dresser. "Was it always this small?" she thought to herself. Airi brought the shirt to her torso and almost choked from shock. Her beloved baggy shirt had shrunk to a belly top. Or a crop top. Airi wasn't up to date with fashion. In a slight panic, she looked through the rest of her shirts and teared up when she discovered that all her shirts had shrunk.
"This is the last time I let Naruto do the laundry" Airi muttered to herself. She only wanted to give the little boy some kind of responsibility. So far, the other little responsibilities Airi had given him turned into a disaster. Doing the dishes? Disaster. Vacuuming? Also a disaster. Watering the plants? They don't have plants anymore. Feeding the cat? It ran away.
It was no wonder Naruto looked nervous this morning. He was waiting for another lecture from his guardian. Airi started to wonder if he shrunk all her shirts on purpose just so she'd scold him. The only shirt she had left was the one that reeked of sweat when she passed out on her bed last night. Well, technically it was morning.
Airi grabbed her smelly clothes clothes from the bathroom and tossed them next to her shrunken clothes on the edge of her bed. She looked back and forth between her options, unsure of whether to go out in such daring attire or smelly ones drenched in sweat. If she wore the shrunken shirt, her belly will be exposed. But if she wore the dirty shirt, she would be smelling that stench the whole day until she got home. As Airi continued to think about her options, she failed to notice a certain copy ninja appear in front of her.
"Yo! Airi-chan!" he chirped. Startled, Airi let out a yelp and looked up.
"Kakashi-kun?" Airi blinked in surprise. Kakashi's eye lowered towards Airi's torso for a moment before darting to the side.
"Hmm I guess I should have just knocked on your front door instead of popping into your room unannounced" Kakashi muttered as he scratched a clothed cheek. Airi knitted her brows in confusion as she saw Kakashi's visible ear turn pink. Oh my how defenseless, he thought. After what seemed like hours to Kakashi (but really it was about 30 seconds), he finally said "Well, I think it's best if I wait in the livingroom then"
Airi blinked again trying to register what just happened. Ah that's right, she thought. Airi repressed a dry laugh as she looked at the plain sports bra and underwear she was wearing. Kakashi of all people shouldn't be feigning embarrassment. A bitter memory of her 15 year old self flashed in Airi's mind as her amethyst eyes darted to one of the drawers beside her twin bed. Her stomach started to twist and her heart started to constrict.
Calloused hands slapped pale cheeks. Don't think about it, Airi repeated as she put on her dirty clothes. She trudged to the living room- well one could barely call it a living room since it was so small- but stopped before opening her bedroom door. Her eyes darted to the drawer. She bit her lip. You don't need it, she screamed. Letting out the breath she was holding, Airi tore her eyes away from the drawer. She walked into the room and found Kakashi comfortably seated in the kotatsu reading his precious Icha Icha Paradisu.
"Why can't you knock on my front door like a normal person?" Airi sighed. She wasn't in the mood for this guy's shenanigans.
"The Sandaime wants to see you right now so he sent me to fetch you" answered the jounin, not looking away from his lovely (pornograghic) book.
A frown marred her pale face. "Sarutobi-sama sent you to fetch me?" she asked not believing him. Dark eyes looked up at her. Hands placed on hips, daring the other to lie. Kakashi hummed.
"Yes and no" he said as he turned another page. Kakashi let out a small chuckle at the other's deepened frown. "He needed to talk to you and I just happened to be there-"
"And you just happened to volunteer to come find me?" Airi interrupted. She felt a headache coming on when Kakashi noded. "And when was that?"
"Ah about an hour ago?" he turned another page. He heard the girl-no- he heard the woman sputter something incoherent.
"An hour? You waited an hour to tell me this?" She asked slowly. The other ninja nodded once more causing Airi to pinch the bridge of her nose. Honestly, considering this was Hatake Kakashi, something like this is not surprising. Even when they met 9 years ago, he still radiated tardiness. Well at least to her.
Always tardy and yet I-
Airi sighed, not want to finish that thought. It was dangerous territory. She felt an eye on her as she walked toward the door to put on her shoes. Neither said anything to one another as they stepped out of the apartment. Kakashi staring from beyond the page he was reading to make sure the maiden in front of him properly locked her door. Airi's palms began to sweat, her back facing the copy-nin, as she felt Kakashi closed his book and step closer to her.
"What?" she bit out. Her lips thinned. She didn't mean to use that tone. Not to him. But he deserves it, a voice echoed out in her mind.
"How are you?" his voice softened.
Airi's eyes narrowed as she clutched her keys in her left hand. Seconds went by as the question bounced off the walls in her head. How am I, she screamed; shouted even. After avoiding her for 3 years and barely acknowledging her presence for 1, that's what he had to ask her? Oh how she wanted to turn around and tear him a new one (but she knew she wouldn't be able to anyway).
A sigh escaped her chapped lips (she knows she needs water). Airi whirled around to face him. Defiant purple eyes bore into Kakashi's one visible eye. He watched as a pale finger gently pushed him away.
"I would answer that but I need my space old man" she said sarcastically. And with that, she dashed off to the Hokage tower, leaving behind the flabbergasted copynin.
"Hm I guess she's mad at me huh?" Kakashi drawled, rubbing his masked chin.
It's short but -sniffs air- do you smell all that tension between these two? -Cackles- See ya.
