Zuko was the silent character, everyone knew that. Sokka was the loud character, another thing that everyone knew. But what only Zuko knew about Sokka was that Sokka kept his true pain inside.

On the day that Fire Lord Ozai had been defeated Sokka had broken his leg. Zuko hadn't known that until Toph and Suki had brought him back to the palace. It amazed him that Sokka, who always voiced his complaints, was silent now. He had stood off to the side while Katara let the healer's set her brother's leg and then she started the healing process for the broken bone and muscles. Finally they had all left to enjoy the celebration, leaving Zuko with Sokka.

Zuko approached the bed Sokka was laying on. "You're awful quiet," he commented when Sokka didn't say anything.

"It's been a long few days," Sokka replied.

"Sokka…"

The water tribe boy turned his head and his blue eyes met Zuko's golden one's. Zuko almost gasped at the pain he saw reflected in the blue orbs.

"You're in pain. Why didn't you say anything?"

"Because it's not physical."

"Then what…?"

"I have no idea if my dad is alive jerkbender. Put in the middle of this bed with this bum leg, I can't get out on my own."

Zuko studied Sokka for a moment before he offered a hand. "Let's go find your dad."

Sokka blinked but then he smiled and took Zuko's hand. "Katara will kill you."

"It's a chance I'm willing to take."
