Best Part

One breath, three counts, and the jump. He adored the rush of wind against his face and believed that he should be able to enjoy it even within the situation. It was something that Bruce could never understand the same way. That Nightwing could truly enjoy his work, not as an obligation. That he could relish in the feeling of each flip over a rooftop for the shear sake of flight. That he could get shivers from barely avoiding being shot and that he could admire the sick cracking sound that came from his leg connecting with a mob boss's jaw. Bruce didn't have to understand, because Dick did.

The thrill was like a crescendo, up down, and heart pounding. His hand gripped itself in a fist and his elbow went backward to stop a lackey in his tracks. "Sorry to ruin your trip," Dick quipped, as another minion fell. He then gripped the railing of the truck they battled atop and pulled his body up into a perfect handstand.

The predictable remaining few moved toward him to attack and received a full body spin-kick to their heads, one after another. Dick pushed off the rail and in one graceful flip he was on his feet again. The boss, all alone now, was panicked. Just the way Dick liked his mob leaders.

Unfortunately this one was a little braver than usual and took an unhesitant flying leap off the back of the truck. Normally Nightwing would pursue the crook, but what he'd chased them for was more important this time. He knew he only had a moment before the driver would try to flip him off the back of the loaded truck. So he moved quickly to the large box that was tied to the front of the trunk. He pulled out a knife, cut through the cord, and pulled the crying little boy out of the cargo.

"It'll be okay," Dick promised as he lifted the frightened boy to his chest and rolled them safely away from the unconscious kidnappers. "I'm taking you home." The boy was too shaken to protest. Dick smiled to comfort him. Despite the thrill of battle, the fun of banter, and the glory of the suit, this was the best part of the job.

Personally, I believe that Bruce feels that rush too, Dick is just too naïve to see it.

Anywaaaay…just a quick one-shot I did for practice. Hope you enjoy.
