All The Difference
NICK'S PROV-
I stand before two roads.
In the woods, lingering in between the two, I feel a sense of loss.
For to be but one traveler I could not take both and I cannot help but feel astray.
My gaze fell down both roads and I look as equal down both as I could.
Both having promised of great things but I, I cannot travel both.
One, worn and used promised of what my old life contained.
Its ground battered with what I could only perceive to be of man, so corrupt and dishonest. Its promise of lights, of one night stands and of money weighed heavily on my soul as I look down the other.
The other, promised of what could be. This road wished to be worn with wear but was not so. It promised friendship, a home, a family and a love.
It had promised me a future.
Oh how I wish I could travel both, oh how I wished.
But I am but one traveler-no- for we are two.
I look to my left to see that of my love.
He smiles at me and asks me which way I shall go.
Full aware that he can't travel both. Just one.
Oh how I knew the path that would separate us.
The decision was but my own. My decision.
I grab his hand and intertwine our fingers.
And leading him on we have difficulty as the overgrowth snags at our clothing but we never once let go, for fear if we did we may regret the two roads that diverged in this yellow wood.
But once, we never did and looking back now, I feel pride of what I have gotten from that road.
A family.
Friends.
A home.
Love.
And one more thing that I picked up along the way.
A Life.
True, it was hard to get here on that road I chose to take, but with my kids, my friends, and my true love all settled in around me, I feel that, having taken the road less traveled has made all the difference.
He stands to my right.
I kiss him.
And smile.
Yes. All the difference indeed.
