He clears his throat for the fourth time in the past two minutes. She doesn't look up from her parchment. "Yes, Ronald?"
He scratches the back of his head and grins sheepishly at her. "I was just wondering if maybe you'd let me-"
This time she does look up at him, fixing him with an irritated glare. "No you may not copy my homework."
"But," he bites down on his lip trying to think of a good excuse. "Come on Hermione, we both know I'm not that bright. Snape's going to kill me if I don't turn in another homework assignment."
"He won't kill you," Hermione says tapping her quill against her knee. "Just give you detention for a week." This makes her smile slightly. "Poor Lavender will miss you."
"Well on the other hand," he says shutting his books.
Hermione grins a little to wide, keeping her eyes focused on the paper in front of her. "Things aren't going to well for the two of you than?"
Ron scoffs. "That's putting it nicely. She's driving me insane."
"Oh," Hermione murmurs. "That's too bad," but her eyes are shining, and she's still smiling.
"Yeah," Ron mumbles lips turning up slightly. "Too bad." He watches her while she writes, curly brown hair falling in front of her dark brown eyes. He considers telling her she looks nice. Except he has a feeling, like most things he says, it'll just make him sound like an idiot. His ears turn pink at the thought. "I think it's time though," he says snapping back to reality.
"What's that?" she asks scribbling so hard he thinks she might just break the parchment.
"You know," he coughs slightly. "To break up with Lavender."
"You mean Lav Lav?" She says mockingly, and then as if just understanding turns to him curiously. "Really?" Their eyes meet.
"Really," he whispers cheeks flushing pink.
"Oh," she whispers focusing her eyes on the floor. "Well than," she manages to say after a particularly awkward silence. "I've finished my essay. I guess I'll be going to bed."
Ron smiles slightly nodding his head. "Guess I'll see you in the morning than?"
"Right," she mutters heading for the girl's dormitories. It takes her all of two seconds to turn around to look at the utterly perplexed redheaded boy staring at his homework. She huffs slightly and marches back over to him, plopping down next to him. "I swear Ronald," she says the moment he turns to her confusion lighting up his bright blue eyes. "This is the last time I help you with your homework."
He smiles at her. "Thanks Hermione."
She bites her lip, unable to hide the smile forming on her own lips. "You're welcome."
