A/N: Hello everyone! This is the first FMAxOHSHC fanfic I've ever written, so do wish me luck. My usual OC will not be in here unfortunately, but I hope that this will still turn out great! This will be taking place after Alphonse has gotten his body back, and this is also pertaining to the manga just so you know. It consists of EdxWinry and RoyxRiza pairings, and I will add fluff and maybe even lemons later on! Also; I know that Ed should have his limbs back, but for fan girl sake I'm keeping him with his automail.

There is an idea in here that I got from another story I read called "Against All My Beliefs", but I won't mention what it is till the end so I don't ruin the surprise. I want to give that writer all the credit for that idea! Well, that's enough talk from me; enjoy, and please review! They're highly appreciated ^_^

Not What I Expected part 1~

"Brother, get up already! A message just came for you; they want you in Central right away!" Al tried desperately to wake his stubborn brother up, but as luck would have it his arms were still too weak to move. "Darn it Ed, just get UP!"

The screech that seemed to accidentally erupt from his younger brother's throat woke Edward up in an instant, a look of confusion displayed plainly on his face. Alphonse sighed, then slowly pushed himself up from his kneeling position at his brother's bedside.

"Good, now that you're finally up, here." Al handed the telegram to a groggy Edward, who took it absentmindedly and read it. His eyes moved across each word sleepily, and as he got to the end of the page a look of panic appeared on his face.

"Al…it says I have to be there at 7:30! What time is it now?"

"Um, 7:38..."

"WHAT?"

Ed instantly jumped out of his bed as he heard this, hastily pulling on clothes and trying to pull his hair back in a ponytail at the same time. Once Ed had succeeded in putting his shirt on, he put one leg in his pants and began hopping around the room in search of his watch as he realized it wasn't sitting on the dresser. Al watched the scene with an amused look on his face, not bothering to offer any help due to his frailty.

Three months ago, Ed had succeeded in binding Al's soul back to his original body, but for some unknown reason Ed's arm and leg were not returned to him. Ed shrugged the loss off immediately, instead turning to helping his brother recuperate after finally being in his body again. Al's body was returned to him in bad shape, with little nutrition and next to nothing in weight. Since his body was so weak, Al had barely been able to walk since the incident, and he'd been staying home at their apartment all day until Ed would get back from his State Alchemist duties. Roy Mustang had finally been promoted to Fuhrer, just like he had dreamed, due to being deemed a hero in the fight against the homunculi and uncovering the military's dark secret of their involvement. As Ed would have expected however, Roy never ceased to put him to work, since his resolve of searching for the Philosopher's Stone had finally ended. Life at Central had become quiet, and in Ed's opinion, boring. Peace had been restored back to the city, and all of the corrupt officers had been properly arrested and put in prison, and the crime rate had gone down significantly. This urgent message from the Fuhrer himself, even if it was just the famed Flame alchemist, couldn't help but give Ed a little excitement.

"Alright Al, I'll see you later!" Ed called over his shoulder, now fully dressed and sprinting out the door. Al waved as he watched his brother run down the street towards Central Headquarters, then slowly and carefully made his way back into the living room.

"Fullmetal; Glad to see you finally decided to show up." Mustang glared for a moment at the blond alchemist as he approached his desk, amused at the struggled breathing and sweat forming on the boy's forehead. "You're only fifteen minutes late this time…I'd call that a record."

"Yeah, well I stayed up last night trying to pull Al away from all the books. We kind of had a little fight…"

Mustang looked at him darkly. "He's still trying to get your body back, huh?"

Ed looked at the floor sadly, an almost shameful look making its way into his amber eyes.

"I told him not to worry about it anymore, but he won't listen. Anyway, I didn't get him to go to bed until about two in the morning, so as you can see, I'm a little tired." Ed ended his last statement with an overdramatic yawn, then stretched his arms over his head, hearing a satisfying crack come from his left shoulder.

"Well, put that aside for now Fullmetal, I have a job for you." Mustang tossed the briefing notebook over his desk to Edward, who caught it faultlessly.

"Remember Dr. Marcoh? Well, his latest research has been the portal, and what may be on the other side of it. He has successfully put someone through it and back safely, so long as they don't ask for anything from it. It seems that the portal is quite willing to let you through, so long as you haven't committed any sort of taboo. Marcoh has proven that."

Ed looked doubtful. "Like hell he has. How can anyone go through that thing without a price? I thought that was the whole point. I didn't lose these limbs for nothing, did I?" Ed clenched his right hand, the metal making a slight screeching sound as the gears ran dangerously close together in his sudden appliance of strength.

"That's just the thing; this may be the answer to getting your limbs back."

Edward looked up to the Flame Alchemist staring hardly at him, his expression on the grim side.

"Believe it or not Edward, Marcoh tested this theory out on himself. He passed through the portal and back unharmed, without paying any sort of price."

"But how did he open it without doing human transmutation?"

"He simply drew the circle; he's had the idea of the 'father' person being behind the portal for a long time. Now that he has been destroyed, the portal is much more willing than it used to be. When the gate was opened before him, Marcoh let it pull him inside, with the thought of only passing through it in his mind. The gate seemed to feel this and led him through it, and he ended up on the other side, completely unharmed. When he wanted to go back, Marcoh simply did the same process again."

Edward merely gawked at his superior, his surprise rendering him speechless. The possibility of getting his limbs back was astonishing enough, but goingthrough the gate? That was just completely overwhelming, and Edward felt himself almost getting sick.

I…can't believe this…that it's so easy…

Riza appeared behind him, pushing a chair up behind him and shoving him down in it, breaking him from his thoughts.

"Now Ed," Mustang began nonchalantly. "I know that you won't even bother to read that briefing booklet, so you're mission is this: You, Lt. Hawkeye, and another officer will be passing through the gate to the other world. Marcoh has already researched the place far enough to get us a map of this new world, and surprisingly it's the spitting image of ours. It seems that in this world alchemy does not exist, but can still be used by inhabitants of our world. Use of alchemy in front of anyone of the new world is strictly forbidden. With all the info Marcoh has acquired for me, I am trusting you two and the other officer to infiltrate the school that's nearby the place where the portal always seems to dump its travelers. It is located in a city called Tokyo, and the school is called Ouran Academy. Ed, you will be attending that school as an honor student; I expect you to pass the honor's exam with flying colors, you got that?"

Ed only nodded as the Fuhrer continued.

"Lt. Riza Hawkeye, you will be accompanying the Fullmetal Alchemist as his mother."

"What?"

Mustang looked up to see Ed staring at him in disbelief, while Riza only stood next to him quietly.

"Yes, you heard me. Now, the other officer will be playing your father. He will be a police officer," Mustang fixed his eyes on Riza. "and so will you be, Lieutenant, only retired due to Edward being born. You will be taking the last name of the other officer accompanying you."

"And who will that be?" Edward asked sarcastically, his hand slamming on the Fuhrer's desk.

"…I haven't decided that yet. You will know tomorrow morning in the lab when you leave."

Al laid in his bed quietly as he listened to his brother pack beside him.

"So how long do you think you'll be gone?" Al finally asked. Ed stopped packing and looked up at him from the floor, his suitcase open in front of him with clothes and books scattered all over the floor.

"They said I'll be attending this school for the rest of the school year, so probably about eight months. They apparently just started school, so I won't have missed much. They said that you can visit me once you get better Al, so don't worry. They might even let you stay with me if you recover completely."

Al smiled weakly. "That would be great!"

Ed nodded happily and continued packing. As soon as he had finished, he quickly made some porridge for Al and set it neatly on a tray next to his bed, a tall glass of milk standing proudly next to it. Al thanked him for his thoughtfulness and watched as Ed dragged his heavy suitcase out the door, a silent prayer on his lips as he watched his brother leave.

Be safe, brother.

Ed made his way down the flight of stairs to the lab as fast as his suitcase would allow him, almost tripping every time he managed to get the heavy thing down another step. After a while he finally made it to the last few stairs, and after them the lab. The portal was already open, ready and waiting for them, and Ed noticed how the distinctive feeling of disarray didn't seem to be emanating from in like it usually did. Riza was already there, standing calmly next to Dr. Marcoh with her own suitcase set down at her feet. The mystery officer was still no where to be seen, making Ed feel an ounce of triumph at him not being the last one here. As he made his way across the room to wait with Riza, he noticed the transmutation circle drawn on the floor below him. A sickening feeling erupted within him at the thought of going through the wicked thing he knew only as the Portal of Truth, but he quickly dismissed his ill thoughts as he heard footsteps from the entrance to the stair case Edward had just come from.

"Finally, it's about time," Ed declared exasperatedly, a smug look on his face.

"Indeed, he's even later than you usually are," Riza commented amusedly.

"WHAT WAS THAT?" Ed asked annoyed, his usual angry glare making its way to the Lt.

"Anyway, I wonder who it is? Havoc perhaps?" Riza continued on curiously, ignoring Edward's previous challenge. Ed blinked at the thought.

"Havoc? You mean my last name would have to be Havoc this whole time? Ugh, no thanks, but I guess that's better than that bastard—"

"Nice to see you, Fullmetal."

Edward looked up to see none other than the Fuhrer himself standing in the doorway, a suitcase in hand. Ed face turned from his usual color to white, slowly processing what this all meant.

Mustang was going to be his fake father for almost a whole year. He'd have to live with him and Riza for almost a year. He would be called Edward Mustang instead of Edward Elric for a year. He'd have to call that bastard "Dad" for almost an ENTIRE YEAR?

"No way in hell you bastard!" Ed yelled at his superior, ignoring all forms of politeness or etiquette his mother had ever taught him that he bothered to remember. Riza subconsciously held the smaller boy back by his arms as Mustang calmly walked across the room over to where they were standing, giving a curt nod to Marcoh in a "Let's go," kind of manner. Before Ed could protest any more, Marcoh put his hands on the circle and the familiar blue-white light began shining all around them, the eye opening on the floor shortly afterwards. Ed, Mustang, and Riza were soon pulled through the gate, and for a split second they were in absolute darkness. The complete nothingness of the void they fell in quickly disappeared just as fast as it came, and before the trio knew it they were sprawled on a sidewalk in some kind of park, their heads reeling and feeling dizzy.

Mustang regained his composure and pulled a map out of his back pocket, looking over it carefully.

"Hmm…" he began thoughtfully. "It would seem that the academy you're supposed to be going to is just over there," Mustang pointed to his left, and sure enough, just outside of the park was a huge elegant building, students and teachers bustling around to get to their classes. Ed scoffed as he examined the uniforms.

"What the-How can those girly dresses be considered school uniforms? At least the boy's uniform is somewhat normal…although, I can't say I like the color. Is that purple?"

"Blue, Edward." Riza stated a-matter-of-factly. "That's definitely blue."

A groan was all she got in reply as Ed pulled himself back up, Riza following shortly afterward. After their superior finished engorging himself in the new world's map, he followed after them as they made their way towards the school.

"Alright Ed; We'll leave you here to take the entrance exam, and we'll go unpack at our house. It's just a little ways down this street actually; anyway, I'll send the Lieutenant here to pick you up in an hour so you don't get lost."

Ed glared at the Flame Alchemist. "Whatever you say, Dadio."

Mustang just smirked at him, then turned on his heel and started down the street, Riza right behind him carrying Edward's suitcase in one hand and her own in the other.

Edward sighed at his fake parents, then began making his way up the steps to the entrance to the school.

As soon as he walked in, Edward was struck by the ornate architecture of the building. To him, it almost felt like a palace, with the walls the soft pink with a crystal chandelier hanging every fifteen feet you walked. Edward walked towards the long staircase that led to the second floor, then realized he had no idea where he was going. He noticed a small boy with short brown hair and big eyes sitting at the foot of the stairs reading a book, and decided to ask him for directions.

"Hey, excuse me, do you know where I can find the office of this place? I'm kinda lost…"

The boy looked up at him, a little startled by Edward's sudden appearance in front of him. At this distance, Ed could really get a good look at the boy; scratch that. The girl.

Ed stood back in shock at his latest discovery. Why was she wearing a boy's uniform? The girl seemed to notice his look of surprise.

"Uh, yeah, I can take you to the office if you want, but…is something wrong?"

Edward snapped out of his thoughts at her question.

"Um, no, I guess not…sorry. I'm Edward by the way."

"Edward…?"

"Uh, Edward Elr-" Ed stopped to clear his throat to cover up his mistake. "…Mustang. Edward Mustang." Yuck,Edward thought bitterly at his new last name. The girl didn't seem to notice.

"Ah, that's a nice name Edward. I'm Haruhi Fujioka. I'm just wondering, but you're not from around here are you?"

Edward shook his head, his eye brows raised worriedly as he struggled to remember where he was supposed to be from. Germie…Germane…

"So where are you from then?"

Crap! He thought frantically as the names of different 'G' words passed through his mind.

"Gerane…Gerany…"

"…Germany?" Haruhi finished for him, a slight look of doubt in her pale features. Edward nodded sheepishly.

"Yeah, I always forget what you guys call my country in this language. It always seems to slip my mind I guess…ha ha ha…" As Edward laughed nervously, Haruhi smiled at him reassuringly and continued leading him down the long hallway to the office. When they arrived, Haruhi bowed politely and left him, Edward thanking her as she made her leave.

"Can I help you young man?"

Edward looked up to a tall man walking out of the separate office in the back of the room, smartly dressed with a goatee and a rose in his breast pocket on his jacket. By the tone of voice this man was supplying him with, Edward assumed this was the headmaster of the school.

"Uh yeah, I'm Edward Mustang, and I'm transferring here…apparently my dad should have called earlier…"

The man nodded enthusiastically. "Of course! Please come with me; Your forms have already been filled out, so the test is the last thing you need to tackle. Your father has already sent us his check for the tuition, so everything is already covered!"

Before Edward could issue something as little as a "Wow,", he was whisked away into a private room with a white packet, to which he assumed was the test, placed before him with a pencil sitting next to it.

Ed sighed jadedly, then picked up the pencil and began his work.

A/N: Weeell, I'm gonna end it there. Imagery is not my strong suit, so if you guys could give me any tips that would be great! Please tell me what you think, and if you could do me a little favor…?

I've always wanted to know what countries my readers are from, so would you mind leaving your country in you review? That would be the coolest thing ever! *sparkly eyed*

Thank you very much for reading this, and I promise I shall update as soon as possible.
