Warning:

This fic is not for the faint of heart. If you couldn't figure out from the summary, Alec is going to be possessed by a demon. He will not only hurt himself, but everyone around him. There shall be much blood, and many tears.

If you are offended by any way of one of the following.

1. Gay Sex, Abuse, Torture.

2. Religious Stuff

3. By Devils and Dancing. (Dancing with the Devil)

4. Blood, Glitter, and Grease (sounds like a GaGa song)

Please turn away now.

If not, let it be said I own nothing of these boys Cassandra Clare does, and even this particular story partly belongs to another fanfic author (My BFF in real life). It was inspired because I wanted Risk My Kiss's Absent Omen to go this way, and she refused so I threatened her with this. So Sara, here is to you babe.

Enjoy. Reviews are love, and good Karma cause I read and review a lot myself. And will.

Possession

Chapter 1. Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leafs a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

~Robert Frost

In the setting sun of the October twilight, Alec was fond of the way his shadow stretched out before him in long black lines over the pavement cracks. It amused him to see the way he and Magnus fit together, and filled his mind between the comfortable silences. Every night in the cool evening air they went out to watch as the old neon lights took place of the sun, and how the downtown city streets came to life with secrets stranger then their own. Downworlder and Shadowhunter alike lived for the night, and no matter how long the world went on without them they still caught careless glances of judgmental strangers.

At first Alec would shy away in his boyfriends arms, and hated the whole city that often seemed against them. He watched with envy couples of every race, and sex not care of the world; their love so warm on their faces that even death could not tear away their pride. Magnus had said it was because he was young, and sheltered beneath secrets none of them would understand; he would come around in time. Their first public dates were of places only Alec knew; old diners, empty subway trains, and long strolls along the rooftops of old abandoned buildings with nothing but the city lights to see their love.

Now…there they were, walking arm-in-arm against the October sky, and its cool breeze promising to be the last of the Autumn's warmth before the Winter came to show its wrath. She could be such a cold bitter bitch, this Winter, and no matter how many this was for Magnus; he couldn't help but feel there was something darker waiting for the future.

Perhaps, it was fear that made him so nervous, or it was the love he bore a mortal that could be stolen from him at any moment; but sometimes it was all Magnus could think about. It consumed him, and when Alec did not spend the night he sat up reading in books older then he was for a way to protect him. He couldn't lose him, not now, but when the wind shifted old dry leaves across his feet he thought he heard them whisper as they passed.

Nothing gold can stay…

Damn the poet, damn him to the hell in which Magnus would suffer if he ever lost Alec. Carefully, Magnus raised the hand settled around Alec's lower back to brush over his feathery black strands. A display of beautiful blue sparks raced from the tips of his fingers to disappear over Alec's neck, and caused his lover to nudge him gently.

"You are doing it again," Alec stated with a smile, his ever-blue eyes still watching the sun set over the city, and before Magnus could make up an excuse or even pass him one of his enchanting glances, he turned a look to the Warlock that pinned the truth. Yet, still Magnus had to try.

"Doing what, My love?" The Cheshire's Grin held nothing on Magnus Bane's 'I'm Trouble' smirk, or the 'I'm in Trouble' pout he often tried to melt his beloved with. It never worked.

"Thinking about the future." It had been a promise between them, to not bring it up anymore after what happened with Camille. They were compressed to only hope, and for now it was enough.

Magnus shifted his grin to the horizon as he let his hand fall back to Alec's back, and the Shadowhunter stuffed his fists into the pockets of his black hoodie.

Alec let Magnus dress him every now and then, but more often then not he kept his attire just as he liked it. The old rags were not going anywhere yet, but Magnus wasn't in a hurry to rid him of them. He in fact had grown to love them, and those beat up old hoodies held a special place in his heart for Alec would get called away he left one with his lover.

'You will never notice I'm gone.' Alec had said that day, pressing the soft well-worn fabric to his lover's chest, and Magnus was washed in the sweet scent of his beloved.

Yeah…Alec could keep these for as long as he was willing to give one up when he was away.

"I can't help it." Magnus spoke quietly, defeated; Alec could see right through him, and even with all the glitter he still looked fierce. "I always think of death in the fall, and how much I'll miss the warmth.

His doorstep was not too far out of reach, but Magnus wasn't ready to go in. He always let Alec lead them, but wanted to protest so badly. This was their time to enjoy each other, and every second was savored as if it were the last.

"So then talk about something else," Alec quipped, "Lets talk about the past." Magnus hated this subject as much as he hated to think of the future. He could dream along with every other couple of normal things, but always when the past was brought up he felt he lost Alec a little more. It sank in further to the young Shadowhunter that his lover wasn't as innocent as Chairman Meow tried to pretend, but over time it was starting to get easier.

"Alec…" Magnus sighed, not wanting to answer his constant questions about his past lovers. He didn't want to be badgered about names, and faces. However, before he could truly offer his protest Alec took his hand from his pocket to lace his fingers with Magnus' half gloved ones.

"No lets talk about your name." That took Magnus back a little, why would Alec want to know about his name? It wasn't his. It wasn't the one he was given by his parents, but the one the Silent Brothers had given him when they raised him. He never really cared for it, but he didn't know his real name. Alec was too polite to tell him, but he knew he suffered with the name Bane. It didn't suit him. Magnus wouldn't argue, but what was he to do?

"What about my name?" When they walked past his door Magnus was relieved in the direction they were heading, and saw the 'BANE' as any other would when they passed. Maybe, he should change it.

"Your last name. You said the Silent Brothers gave it to you, do you know why?" Alec asked, and when the wind picked up he huddled further in Magnus with a small laugh. He felt Magnus shrug, and carefully put his chin on the Warlocks shoulder; leaning in so it wasn't so awkward.

"No, I don't. You don't really ask the Silent Brothers things like that." Magnus always clammed up when he spoke of his past, and Alec could feel his lover's shoulder's tense as well his biceps that were now being held onto by Alec's cold fingers.

"Well…do you like it? I don't." Blunt Alec, but Magnus loved this about him and laughed lightly wondering what had come over his boy.

They passed through the gates of the park that felt as though they were starting into an entire new world. With the city so busy, and often compared to the wild; here in the true beauty of the natural world it was easy to forget they were not alone.

"I don't really mind it. Its my name you know?" How did you answer that? It wasn't like he could wake up one day and just change it. Mundanes could, but when everyone depends on you like the Downworlders did you couldn't really just do as you truly pleased.

"Well…" Alec let go of Magnus' arm long enough to take his hand again and pull him away from their normal path to take the one that lead to the fountain. It wasn't shut off yet, but the water didn't race as swiftly. The autumn leaves were heavy atop it, and their reflection broken from new ones falling. "Don't get mad." Alec spoke, and Magnus realized he held his mouth in way he often did when he was nervous until he finally spoke softly, "But I've been thinking of the future too."

"Alec…" Magnus narrowed his eyes on him as if he was about to be pranked, and couldn't help a devious smirk. "What are you up to?" He asked slyly arching a well-sculpted brow to wonder over his boyfriend who kept his face forward. "Alexander, I'm wearing my nice shoes can we please not play this game again?" He protested as they walked by the fountain of stone angels. The Angel of the Waters had been one of their many places that Magnus dubbed as a first for Alec. There wasn't anything first about any of their experiences for Magnus, but Alec never failed to ask.

"I just figured I'd offer you mine." Alec said so quietly with his eyes focused on the distance as if he gained strength from the dying light. The night had always calmed him, but there was something magical about the autumn twilight.

Magnus' heart stopped in his chest while his feet stopped over the pavement, and though Alec still held his fingers he turned on Magnus to show how serious he was. They didn't tease about things like this, and it wasn't like Alec to tease about anything really. The future was a forbidden subject, but when Alec fished in his pocket for the black velvet box it was all he could think about.

Magnus brought his painted nails over his glossed lips to mask his gasp, but couldn't keep away the tears that sprang to his eyes.

"Magnus Bane, will you marry me?" The ring was beautiful, shinning there in the dying light of the sun with a large red stone set in heavy silver. The cut was flawless, but timeless as well. It was something that seemed fit for some old Lord, or a powerful King. The magic inside the red stone made it radiate with warmth, but Magnus didn't have time to question Alec on how he could have ever gotten ahold of a such thing, or if he even knew what it was. No, he was too busy falling to his knees before his lover trying to muster up words to even say yes.

"Y..yes…Alec, Yes." He cried, happy tears that now also misted Alec's beautiful face as well. Magnus took his lover's pale cheeks in his palms, and he felt he held the brightest start in the dawning night. "A thousand times yes."

Alec bent in further to press his forehead against the Warlock, and smiled the sort of victorious grin that made his entire face light up. There they were on their knees beneath stone angels promising things that neither could take back.

"I can wear white, and you can wear black." Magnus' make up was running, but he didn't care. He couldn't stop staring at the red stone, and how it looked like fire on his fingers.

"Shadowhunters wear gold." Alec laughed, and with that the sun disappeared behind the cityscape; taking with it the last of the light. Why was it when Alec said that, Magnus' heart felt heavy with the fear of what was coming.

Nothing gold can stay…

A/N: This is a spur of the moment story that is sooooo not going to be as massive as Center of the Sun, and hardly on the scale of Tears from the Moon. (My Other Fics, that are AU)

This is going to be my refresher story to keep my mind going, and challenge myself when I feel I need to change venue.

Review if it pleases you, and ignore mistakes. My Beta is in Europe being awesome.
