A/N: Okay, a little heads up: this is my first story here on fanfic and first Mortal Kombat story too. All the Mk characters looks will be based on their first costumes from the new MK9 game. It took me forever just to come up with the beginning (i rewrote it all twice-_-)
And I'm sorry if this chapter drags on, but i hope you guys can give it a chance anyways.
(I own nothing of Mortal Kombat or its characters!)
The sound of honking horns, screeching breaks, and smashing metal filled her ears. As her vehicle flipped in the air she squeezed her eyes shut in hopes of escaping the image that had been freshly burned in the back of her eyelids: his lips planted on another woman's. When the vehicle stopped tumbling, only her bloody limp arm could be seen resting on the asphalt from the broken window.
She opened her eyes in alarm, but instantly shut them again when she felt the sun's rays hitting her face. Lily wondered why her eyes were hurting from the sunlight. This time she squinted her eyes when she opened them, trying to adjust her oddly blurry vision. As everything gradually came into focus, Lily noticed she was staring at a plain white ceiling. She had also caught the scent of flowers; the aroma made itself known as it filled the room.
Where Am I?
She sat up from the bed she was laying on. Lily winced at the small jolt of pain she received from her ribs.
"What the…"
Her eyes widened when she saw bandages and IV's protruding from her veins. In a panic she looked around and realized she was in a hospital bed. Lily led her gaze to the surprising amount of flowers in vases that surrounded the room, with the majority of them wilted and withered. She touched her head and sides, grazing the cloth that was tightly wrapped around her forehead and ribcage.
"Crap." She sighed in defeat as she lied back on her pillow.
Lily heard footsteps and inaudible chattering drawing near her room. The footsteps stopped, and the voices from the other side of the door became loud enough for her to eavesdrop in the conversation.
"Are you absolutely sure about this?"
It was a man's voice. Lily guessed it belonged to the doctor.
"Y-yes…" a woman's voice whimpered. Lily gasped.
Mom?
She saw the doorknob turn and instinctively lied back down to close her eyes. The doctor walked in, followed by a nurse comforting Lily's mother. They stood in front of the bed waiting for the doctor's orders. He looked at his chart and nodded in assurance.
"With your consent we will pull the plug."
Lily's mother placed her hands over face, and began to cry. Lily casually sat up, ignoring their astonished expressions.
"Don't cry. I'm not dead yet." Her voice was somewhat calm and nonchalant.
"LILY!" her mother cried as she flung her arms around her daughter. She tightened her grip as she wept on Lily's shoulder. Lily awkwardly hugged her back.
What the hell is going on here?
She turned her attention to the doctor. "What's going on? Why am I in the hospital?"
Her question sounded more like demand.
"Oh, right." The doctor blinked his eyes, snapping out of his distraction. "Well you were in a coma for three months due to the major concussion caused by the car accident you were in." Lily tilted her head in confusion. "Car accident?"
Her mother pulled away from her. "You don't remember?" she sniffed.
"No." Lily replied, looking back at the doctor for answers. Once he explained everything, he told Lily she could be released from the hospital as soon as she was strong enough to walk again. The time spent there trying to get her mobility back felt like it dragged on forever.
She immediately headed to her room to gather fresh clothing and a towel. Lily jumped in the shower feeling disgusted at the thought of being in a bed for three months without being properly washed. She scrubbed as hard as she could, ignoring the discomfort it was giving her. When she was finished, Lily felt her lips tremble. Although she couldn't remember much of the car accident, she couldn't forget the scene of him and her together. Lily pulled her wet hair in frustration as she knelt down.
Why? Why did this happen to her? Was she not good enough? He promised he would never leave her. But that must have been a lie from all that has happened.
She slightly rocked back and forth as she let the tears fall down. The loud sound of the hot water pouring down the showerhead overpowered her uncontrollable sobs. At that moment she didn't care if she was heard. She just wanted the water to wash away all the tears and pain.
When she finally decided to stop crying she weakly picked herself up to turn off the showerhead. The drain echoed throughout the bathroom, sucking in all of Lily's emotions with it. She stared at it until the water was completely gone. She then swore to herself she would never be tricked into believing nonsensical things—such as trust and love—ever again.
Farewell, useless emotions.
Lily pulled away the curtain, wrapped herself in her towel, and collected her clothing, only to lean against the shower's cold marble wall. She sighed as she snuggled her clothes. In her heart she desperately wanted to escape the emotional baggage that was weighing her down. Lily secretly yearned to be saved by anyone who would sincerely offer their hand. But most of all, she wanted to be saved by someone who promised her loyalty, safety, and compassion. Lily couldn't help but smirk hopelessly. Of course she knew better after learning from her own personal experiences that those wishes were nothing but fantasies.
The thunder god calmly followed behind the hell-spawn spectre through the woods despite his constant threats and refusal to comply.
"Scorpion!" He called out. "If you fight for Earthrealm you will not have to keep searching for Quan Chi."
The black and yellow garbed ninja stopped walking, cursing under his breath in annoyance. He knew if he joined Raiden, Quan Chi would come looking for him; but he did notwant to be ordered around by the thunder god either. Then again, blindly searching for Quan Chi high and low hasn't been a success either. He balled his fists and turned around.
"Fine." He growled, his dead white eyes narrowing.
Raiden instantly jerked his head. "What's this?"
He felt a strong energy emitting not too far from him. Raiden walked up to the rippling space between the trees.
"A portal?" He raised his hand over it, trying to sense where it came from.
Not Outworld…not the Netherrealm…
Scorpion rushed over to him and unsheathed his short sword from his back, preparing to slice anything ominous that might appear through the portal. Raiden stretched his arms in front of him and slowly inched them in. In that same moment Lily didn't notice the shower wall rippling behind her. With her eyes closed she had been in deep thought. When Raiden's hands crept through the wall, Lily felt herself falling back. She opened her eyes and gasped as the wall consumed her. An electric shock zapped both her body and Raiden's as soon as she crashed into him. The electric force thrust him to the ground. Completely drained, Lily didn't bother to move, and it seemed Raiden didn't either.
Scorpion sprang into action as soon as he saw the girl lying on top of Raiden. He swung his blade, but was easily deflected by the thunder god.
"Fool!" the god snapped, shoving him back.
Scorpion shot him a death glare.
Raiden glanced down at the frail girl lying on top of him. Who was she? Where did she come from? She swayed as she lifted herself up.
"Damn…that hurt."
She rubbed her head as she glanced down at Raiden who was also glimpsing back at her, completely flabbergasted. He noticed the towel she was wearing had barely done its job in covering her properly. Out of courtesy, he bashfully looked away. Scorpion became irritated at the sight Lily, dissatisfied seeing she was nothing but a weak girl, and not some dangerous foe he was hoping to kill.
This was obviously a waste of his time. He was about to walk away until he saw the girl do something unexpected. For a split second he thought he was hallucinating. Scorpion raised his brows as he saw the girl lewdly push her body against Raiden. The thunder god pretended to ignore her gesture as he uncomfortably cleared his throat.
"Are you hurt anywhere?"
Lily chuckled weakly as she brushed a strand of dripping wet hair from her face. She figured if she was dreaming, why not have a little fun? For an older man she thought he was quite attractive. "You can do whatever you want to me." She cooed, reaching out to touch his face.
Raiden quickly grabbed her wrist, and swept her up in his arms. He staggered a bit, barely feeling the intensity of his weakness. Why did he feel so drained? Surely it wasn't because of the girl's weight.
Raiden looked to Scorpion for a reply but saw that he was already walking away. "Where are you going?"
The aggravated spectre kept walking. "This has nothing to do with me." He snarled.
The thunder god glanced down at the girl who had surprisingly knocked out. He softly shook her. Nothing. Out like a light. This wasn't good. In fact, if the elder gods found out about the girl, Raiden knew it would cause havoc. He also had to worry about Shao Khan, who was expected to come back any day now to claim Outworld.
I must first find out where this girl is from, and immediately send her back.
That would solve one of his worries.
"Scorpion, I need you to take care of the girl while I'm away."
The ninja stiffened at the words.
"I cannot protect her in my current condition."
What did he mean by that? The words filled him with suspicion as he slowly turned his head. Raiden not being able to take care of a mere mortal sounded very peculiar.
"And why is that." Scorpion challenged.
The thunder god sighed. He didn't want to tell him everything…not until he was certain of it all.
"Here." He shoved Lily into the spectre's arms, and before Scorpion could retaliate, Raiden had vanished.
"Damn you Raiden!" Scorpion fumed.
How dare he leave me to this pathetic woman!
He abruptly stopped as he felt the girl shift in his arms. He noticed she was still wet with her long hair heavily dripping down. He was utterly insulted to having to care for such a woman with no shame. He grimaced, as he was tempted to drop her and let her rot in the woods. This girl wasn't his problem—it was Raiden's—and simply leaving her here sounded like the best thing to do.
Scorpion was about to drop her until another thought hit him. If he left her here he would never hear the end of the thunder god's constant nagging. And that would make any wraith want to stay dead.
The ninja threw the unconscious Lily over his shoulder while angrily making his way on foot to the nearest village. It was going to take him at least three days to get there with the extra 'baggage' he was carrying. He searched his mind for a sufficient answer as to why the hell he allowed himself to become a babysitter. He couldn't find one. This made his blood boil.
Lily dreamt of his smile, his laughter, and his warm embrace that always felt comforting. The warmth of his chest became stronger…in fact, very strong to the point where it had woken her up. She felt all the blood rush through her head.
Why is it so damn hot?
Lily felt sticky with sweat and realized she was looking down at somebody's walking heels. She gasped as she tried lifting herself up to see who was carrying her.
"Put me down!" She demanded.
Where was this person taking her? Was he going to murder her in the woods and dump her body? In a panic Lily frantically kicked and squirmed for the man to release her. No reaction. Not even a slight turn of the head.
Unbelievable! I'm going to die!
There was only one thing she could do: scream. Lily screamed with all her might, hoping someone—anyone—would hear her.
"ENOUGH!" The ninja roared in aggravation, tossing her to the ground. He couldn't take her piercing shrieks any longer.
Lily immediately backed away in fright, looking up at him for the first time: solid white eyes with a face hidden beneath a menacing mask. His entire body became enveloped in flames as he stared down at her. As scared as she was, she couldn't help but also feel amazed at the sight.
"Um…are you…a demon…?" She blurted out.
Surprised by her own words she quickly covered her mouth.
What the hell am I saying?
A/N: That's it for now! Hope it wasn't that bad. I'd appreciate any R&R. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for reading :]

A/N UPDATE: I finally fixed the format of this chapter because it was just AWEFUL. It was all clumped together, and my spacing was completely off.
There's a couple other mistakes I need to fix in some other chapters, but nothing major. Most of it's grammer, so if I still happen to miss some, notify me and I will have that s*** fixed ASAP.
Having misspellings in my fanfic drives me nuts (X_X)
