Disclaimer: All of the Inuyasha characters are not mine, they belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

AN: I apologize if I made anyone think I abandoned this story. And I'm still working on the chapter rewrites for the beginning chapters of this story. So far I've rewritten and posted chapters 1-8.

AN: Reminder of name change: Sashiki is now Yokoshima (the Japanese word for evil).

Kouken stood outside her hut. She'd been waiting since dawn for Inuyasha to show so they could begin their hunt for Naraku. She looked at the sun, which had risen above the tree line already. Rolling her eyes, she tapped her foot impatiently, unconsciously stepping to the beat of a lullaby her mother used to sing to her. She looked at the sun again, which had risen higher. She sighed. When would Inuyasha arrive?

He knew better than to take his time on a day like this. If they didn't defeat Naraku before the eclipse…she didn't want to think about that.

Kouken shook her head. Maybe she should start without him? He would no doubt figure out she went to the mountain Naraku was hiding if he didn't find her at her hut.

The next thought made Kouken freeze.

Did he? He wouldn't? There's no way…?!

Kouken's thoughts were cut off as the ground shook beneath her feet. Little pebbles rattled as Kouken grabbed the door frame of her hut to prevent from falling.

She looked in the direction of the epicenter of the quake. Even from this great distance she could tell it came from Mount Hakurei—Naraku's hiding place.

"That idiot!" Kouken hissed harshly as she created a portal to the place her boyfriend no doubt needed saving.

Inuyasha barely managed to keep his head upright. Blood from the gash on his forehead flowed down into his right eye. He squeezed the eye closed as the mix of blood and sweat began to sting his iris.

He looked at the chains that bound his wrists and ankles above the sinkhole in the center of the mountain. He pulled at the chains once again only to have the chains tighten even more. The chains glowed red as they stretched his limbs further, causing a painful tug from his arms and legs.

Inuyasha hung his head low. How could this have happened?

Oh right. Kagura appeared instead of Naraku, and her army of dead men ambushed him.

He needed to remain calm. He had to figure a way out of this.

"Don't bother trying to escape. It's pointless." Kagura levitated in front of him.

"Why haven't you killed me? You plan to sacrifice me, right?" Inuyasha glared at Kagura with an iciness that would make his brother proud.

"The sacrifice can't take place until after Yokoshima is freed."

Inuyasha opened his right eye in surprise only to close it again because the cut was still leaking blood into it.

Reaching into her kimono, Kagura pulled out a handkerchief and wiped the blood from his face. She even went as far to heal the gash across his forehead.

"Why are you doing this? You plan to kill me anyway."

Kagura wrapped the handkerchief around her ring finger before reaching up to touch Inuyasha's dog ears. Kagura may be his enemy, but she couldn't resist the urge to touch the cute appendages that twitched with each sound.

Inuyasha breathed; in through the nose, out through the mouth. He had to ignore the urge to lung at Kagura. He needed more information.

"We need you weak, but not too weak. You won't have enough energy to transfer if you're half dead." Kagura finally stopped touching his ears.

"Energy transfer? What are you trying to do? Resurrect the dead?" Inuyasha couldn't help the sarcasm that dripped from his lips.

Kagura didn't answer, she only smirked.

Inuyasha's expression went from anger to shock. "That's not possible. Resurrection is the one power sorcerers don't have."

"All but one."

It took a few seconds for Inuyasha to put the pieces together. "Yokoshima figured it out."

"Almost. There's a catch—only death pays for life."

"And I'm the sacrifice." Inuyasha couldn't keep the fear from invading his tone.

"Correct." Kagura gave a condescending pat between the fluffy dog ears.

"If it's any consolation, your death with be quick. I despise cruelty for cruelty's sake."

Inuyasha didn't answer, only glared.

"There's got to be a spell to get me out of this."

Kouken stood outside Mount Hakurei. She could sense the power of the jewel from the center of the mountain. From what she could tell, Inuyasha was in some sort of dark magic trap, and the other person with him has the jewel.

She couldn't just barge in. Most likely that's what got Inuyasha in his current predicament. She needed a plan…

AN: I know it's short, but it is a preview. I'm still working on this chapter, but I wanted to post something since I haven't updated in so long.

Feel free to point out any spelling/grammar mistakes. :)
