A/N Whew. Three and a half hours of writing 470 words. I'll never write a book... It's been a while since I've written anything and I really hope it's okay. I'm a little nervous, because I attempted to read it from someone else's POV and I thought that it may seem inconsistent if your someone other than me. So, reviews would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!
How to Train Your Dragon
The people of Berk enjoyed watching people ride dragons. It was a joy to see everyone having fun when before their life had been filled with fear and worry. When would the next dragon raid come? Would there be enough food to survive the winter?
But their greatest joy was watching Hiccup and Toothless fly.
Everyone else rode the dragons- they sat and got jerked around and bounced up and down while the dragons they were riding flew.
But Hiccup flew with the dragon.
His body moved in perfect synchronization with Toothless'- if Toothless leaned to the left, so did Hiccup. If Toothless went into a dive, Hiccup did the same.
It was baffling how in tune the two were with each other- Toothless knowing when Hiccup was going to fall seconds before it happened and Hiccup being able to practically understand the dragon were only a few.
Although no one ever said anything- it hurt like a physical wound to the body to see the two walking sometimes.
Every day they all saw Hiccup walk with his prosthetic foot and were reminded of how it was their fault. If they had treated him better and had been more willing to accept him for who he was then Hiccup may have never felt the need to try and prove himself to them and he would have never shot down the Night Fury… they would have never found the nest and the events that happened there would never have happened.
Then they would see Toothless- Hiccup's forever loyal friend, always there to catch him when he fell (Sometimes quite literally) and they would see just how cruel they had really been. Cruelty, meaning, their failure to see what had been right in front of them. Hiccup was different- always had been. And because he was different he grew up an outcast and alone.
What Berk saw was a failure, and what they failed to see was someone who only wished for acceptance.
Hiccup had found acceptance in Toothless- had found a friend in what was supposed to be his enemy. Toothless gave Hiccup a freedom from ridicule and loneliness. Something Berk had only ever caused.
They saw what they had missed out on. They saw a person who could have been their greatest friend had they given him the chance. They missed out on a loyalty that now belonged completely to Toothless.
They saw their mistakes. And there was no taking them back.
But when Hiccup flew with Toothless… everyone would see that Hiccup felt like he had won. He had a friend and the acceptance he had desired his whole life. His father was proud of him… Hiccup was happy…
Berk's greatest joy was seeing that the scars they had caused were slowly fading away…
