A/N: Hey there. I swear I haven't dropped Snapshots Of Life, it's just kinda… on hiatus. I'm not finding any inspiration for it. Sorry about that. Anyway, this little oneshot was inspired by the song All I Ever Wanted by The Airborne Toxic Event. I've been listening to them obsessively lately… if you've heard their new album, try to find the reference to another song in here!
No warnings for this, just enjoy!
"You're so beautiful…" Gilbert murmured, gently stroking his Canadian boyfriend's cheek. He knew that the other wouldn't hear him, though, but that didn't really matter; in fact, it was really the only reason he'd said it. The times when he would wake up in the middle of the night to find the boy sleeping were the only ones that he felt confident enough to pour his heart out to Matthew. He just seemed ridiculous and girly and just generally… unawesome at any other time.
Matthew shivered a bit, and Gilbert hugged him close against himself with a fond smile, so different from the arrogant smirk that he usually wore. His smile only widened when the blonde nuzzled his chest and unconsciously wrapped his arms around the other, attempting to get more warmth.
"I'm really going to miss you, Mattie… and I don't know if I'm coming back," he muttered against that soft, flaxen hair. Spending the entire summer in Germany, two months, away from his adorable Canadian was enough to make his heart pound with dread, but the thought of moving there, halfway around the world, and never coming back made him want to scream. Gilbert already knew that he couldn't live without Matthew, that being away from him was always able to make him feel like only half of something else. If he wasn't able to be with Matthew forever… it made him shudder just to think about it.
Suddenly, he felt Matthew moving against him, could feel they boy's eyelashes brushing against his chest as he blinked slowly. "Gil…? W-were you talking…?" he mumbled, the words slightly slurred with sleep as he brought his head up a bit to look up at Gilbert with heavy-lidded violet eyes.
"Sorry, Birdie, I was just talking to myself… you can go back to sleep," Gilbert replied gently, and the Canadian shook his head minutely.
"No, I'm awake now…" he said. He opened his mouth as if he were about to say something else, but just shifted his gaze back down with a slight tint of red painting his cheeks.
"Were you gonna say something?" Gilbert asked.
"Well… I…" Matthew started, pausing to look up at his boyfriend, giving him a look that Gilbert couldn't quite read… it was almost like the face that a child makes when shyly asking for assurance or permission. "I-it might sound stupid, but… y-you're gonna be here forever, right? W-with… with me?"
Gilbert could only bite his lip and look away, subconsciously holding the boy in his arms tighter, as if he were already trying not to lose him. After a few moments, he turned back to Matthew, staring straight into his eyes, rubies boring into shimmering violets.
"Of course I am, Mattie. Always. I promise."
