Disclaimer:I don't own the Hunger Games, otherwise Madge would have lived and her and Gale would have had a secret fling:P

Spoilers for Catching fire!

The blood ran down the kid's back and dripped onto the nice white table cloth staining it red. His back was so torn up it looked like a peice of dead meat. Most would find this disturbing, but not Haymitch, he had survived the Hunger Games, the gore he saw was enough to make anyone immune to something like this. He noticed that Peeta and Katniss didn't seem to be affected either, well that's the Hunger Games for ya.

The blond woman, Mrs. Everdeen was talking, she was commanding really, saying something to Katniss. The girl yelled back, because she never did learn when to keep her mouth shut. He tried not to hear what they were saying, he had gotten really good at this over the years, the large amount of alcohol consumption helped. He heard the last part of what Mrs. Everdeen had called out (not for lack of trying) and he helped Peeta force Katniss out of the room. Besides he didn't want to spend anymore time with the healer than he had to, she carried more memories with her than he cared to recall.

When someone knocked on the door Katniss was the first to make a move to open it. When she did time froze for Haymitch Abernathy,
because there stood the girl that he had fought in the Quarter Quell with, all those years ago, the girl he had held while she died.
Her eyes were the same bright blue and her eyelashes had a dusting of snowflakes along with her honey blond hair. Her cheeks were pink from the cold, and he remebered the deathly white color they had been when he watched her slowly lose her life. Katniss said her name, she had called her Madge, but this girl would never truly have an identity in his mind, to him she would be the constant reminder of the girl he let die.

He listened to her tell Katniss of the painkillers that she would give to Gale. Her voice was different than Maysilee's, it was higher and held more innocence. Why was she giving such expensive medicine to the kid? Not many people would do that for a stranger, he voiced this thought as soon as the door closed on the girls back. He didn't listen after that, his mind was aquiring a headache as he tried to think of ways to avoid this new Maysilee.

God he needed a drink.

AN: Sorry for the vagueness of it all, but it is Haymitch's mind, I didn't really think he would be all that concentrated on the world going on around him. So yeah.
