Jenna was surrounded by her family and friends as Jeremy and Stefan brought the cake inside. Everyone started to sing Happy Birthday to her and she couldn't help the huge smile on her face despite the number of candles on the cake which her son had insisted needed to be accurate, the little brat.
"Time for presents." Damon announced and handed Jenna a small box. "Happy Birthday."
Jenna grinned and snatched the box from his hands. "Are these the earrings I kept oh-so-subtly hinting at?"
Jenna opened the box and stared. She recognized the simple platinum ring immediately, but she didn't understand. Images started to flash through her head. She saw herself in a baby blue sundress holding a camera with Damon standing just a few feet away with a smiling three-year-old Jeremy in his arms. They had been so young and so happy.
"Remember ten years ago when we were on our first vacation with Jeremy? One day we walked through the city and did some window shopping. You saw this ring and I saw how much you liked it. I wanted to get it for you, but you would have never let me buy you something so expensive. So I went back the next day and had them ship it to my house. I always knew that one day I would put this ring on your finger and make you my wife."
Jenna was shocked and still trying to process what was happening when Damon went down to one knee in front of her.
"It hadn't been love at first sight, we had a kid before we had our High School diplomas, we basically did it all backwards. We had our ups and downs, but it had always been us. I guess what I'm trying to say is...Jenna Sommers, will you marry me?"
All eyes were on Jenna. She realized that they were all waiting for an answer, but she was so chocked up she couldn't say anything.
"Mom, this is the part where you say yes." Jeremy stage whispered.
That made Jenna laugh and after she took a deep breath in she flung herself at Damon and shouted her answer for everyone to hear. "YES!"
While everyone cheered and clapped, Jenna kissed and Damon and afterwards pulled Jeremy over to them and hugged him as well.
Best 30th birthday party ever.
