Compromise

He refused to come down from the mountain.

Green bent his head down slightly and looked over into the snowy distance, wordless.

"Why?" he whispered.

Red took Green's warm hand in his own frozen ones, and squeezed it tightly.

Moments passed where neither of them spoke. Green felt his heart shatter with rejection. Why did Red insist on calling this empty mountain home? If he loved him, why wouldn't he come back home? Green wondered this, and wondered where their relationship had gone wrong.

Green finally snuggled up slightly to Red, who laid his head gently on Green's shoulder, both watching a cold blizzard engulf the mountain with white.

"I'll stay too."
