AN: Part of the 100 themes challenge. Definitely from the episode "100". I cried insanely after I saw that and that night, I dreamt of this story. Yes, I dream of Criminal Minds. When I saw the theme hero, I thought this would be a great concept. I don't own Criminal Minds!
Hotch was in his kitchen, drinking a bottle of beer, when he suddenly threw it at the wall, shattering it.
It's only been a month since Haley died. A month since she was murdered by Foyet. A month since his world came crashing down.
His son doesn't have a mother. She was killed by an unsub that he should have caught. He drinks alcohol to make the memories go away, to drown out the memory of hearing the gunshot over the phone.
He slid to the floor and cried into his knees. Jack is with his grandmother, which he is glad, so his son wouldn't see him like this. Everyday, it gets him harder to cope. There are times he doesn't even want to go on living. He has Jack, but that doesn't seem enough. It doesn't seem enough.
"Aaron?"
Hotch looked up and saw Reid staring at him.
Spencer Reid. Reid, who always supported him. Reid, who supported him when he divorced Haley. Reid, who became his best friend and lover. Reid, who always brightened his day. Reid, the person who became everything to him.
He couldn't leave him. He couldn't leave him behind.
"Spe-Spencer…I…"
Hotch didn't finish as Reid knelt down and took the older man in his arms. Hotch sobbed on his shoulder, while Reid himself started crying. They stayed like that for about an hour, two figures in sorrow over a violent act of loss.
Hotch remembered when he was a child, he always thought heroes wore capes. His hero wore wearing argyle sweaters and messenger bags.
