Awakening to the noises and shaking around him, Japan knew what it was.
He got out of his bed and turned to the window.
An earthquake.
He jumped out and ran outside and joined the many fleeing people. The ground shook violently, and he could barely keep his balance. Buildings erupted into flames behind him as more people flooded past him.
They all raced ahead to the nearest port; Japan was lost within the clutter of people, all running for their lives.
Japan turned his head again to look at the destruction, and couldn't see it over the heads of the running citizens. He slammed into a person in front of him, and fell to the ground. He jumped back up and tried to look over the heads of the millions in front of him.
He managed to push to the front of the crowd…and then wished he was in the back of the crowd again…
A vastly large tsunami was quickly approaching the island. Everyone behind him turned to run as fast as they could, but were slowed by the people running towards the tsunami, unaware of the dangers that lay for them there…
Japan didn't run; he was frozen with disbelief.
He felt someone grab his arm and was forced to run. The person who had grabbed him looked desperate; as if she was searching for someone…
He squeezed his arm from her grip and turned to run on his own, past the people around him, trying to find a way off…
He stopped in front of his house…or what was left of it. It had caught on fire, and was steadily burning to the ground…
It had been fine ten minutes ago.
It was watching his home burn to the ground when Japan realized…that they had no where safe to run away to…
They were surrounded…
He heard a scream, followed by more shrieks and the sounds of waves. He turned and saw water rushing down the street, sucking up the people trying desperately to escape it by running towards the burning buildings…
He began to run as well, the cuts from the burns and the cracks from the earthquake cutting deeper into his skin, but the attempt was pointless, and he was sucked up into the water.
As he fell under the water, he struggled to fight the rapid currents and resurfaced…only to be knocked back under by a floating car.
He fell deep into the water, unconscious…
His eyes closed as he was swept away by the 32foot tsunami as the remains of his capital and him were dragged out to the sea…
They will not stay closed.
They will open again.
But only if we help him to open his eyes to a reality that is worth looking at.
Pray for Japan. And then get up and do something for him.
