Title: Remembering Sarah Jane
Summary: Just my tribute to Elisabeth Sladen… she deserves so much more.
Sarah Jane.
The Doctor knew as he stood at her funeral that he would always remember that name.
Sarah Jane had been one of his brightest, most memorable companions.
And now she was dead.
She had died of cancer; he supposed that was better than being shot with a Dalek ray.
Death always followed him, no matter what, but at least he wasn't responsible for hers.
She was still too young.
He had been planning the next trip with Amy and Rory when Martha called him from Ealing.
He had insisted on going alone to her funeral, to pay his respects.
Walking along, he spotted Luke and K-9. He waved to them, and Luke waved back, looking confused. That's when he remembered; he didn't look the same, but he was in too much pain to bother explaining.
Looking down at her, she seemed so peaceful. He remembered when he last saw her; he had saved Luke's life, and when she looked at him, somehow, she knew he was saying good-bye. Now he was at her funeral. Ironic.
"Good-bye Sarah Jane," the Doctor whispered for the last time.
He would never forget her.
