Castle is not mine. Unfortunately.

"Castle" said Beckett when found him sitting in his chair early in the morning. He had an open book on his hands. "What are you doing here?"

He rested the book on the table and waited for her to sit before talking.

"It was four am when I woke up thinking my cell phone was ringing. It wasn't. When I tried to sleep again, I found out I wasn't sleepy at all, so I decided to go find something to do" and paused dramatically, getting comfortable on his chair. At that moment she raised her eyes and half smiled, waiting for him to keep talking. "Exploring some of the boxes inside my wardrobe, I found this old yearbook. It's Alexis'" and pointed to the book he was holding moments before she arrived.

"And can I ask you what brought you here?" She was already paying attention to her papers.

"I was bored."

"Okay then."

He had already noticed something different, but the fact that she was almost like ignoring him completely, and wore that tiny smile on the corner of her lips made him sure of what it was. When Castle spoke again, it was as if he read her thoughts.

"And I didn't bring you coffee because it was too early and my favorite coffee shop wasn't open."

Beckett raised her head and sharpen her eyes.

"I was thinking, though" he began once more, trying to enlighten things with his coffee-lover-muse. "We could go out and, I don't know. Have breakfast as normal people usually do. What do you think?"

By the look on her face, he could wait very well for a "no" and several excuses. Instead, Beckett made a pout, looking away, then turned to him again, wearing a thoughtful expression. She sighed.

"Will you buy me coffee?"

"Even two, if you wish."

She took some more time to think, playing with him, enjoying the hopeful look in his face. Then she looked at her wristwatch to check the hour and leaned back in her chair, drumming her fingers on the table.

"I'm only going if you promise to buy me a coca cola for lunch"

"Deal" and raised his hand, ready to seal the deal.

"Deal."

After shaking hands, both of them stood up and put their jackets on. Beckett vainly tried to disguise a little smile that was still playing on her lips in the process.

"This is just a reminder for you to not come here..."

"Without your coffee, I know. Unforgivable mistake, I understand perfectly."

"Great."

And then the conversation was over. The two of them headed to the elevator with no rush at all. It was just another normal day at the 12th.
