Protect and Defend.

The assignment was straightforward - to protect and defend three extremely bright but vulnerable scientists who had difficulty staying out of trouble.

He had faced more challenging tasks. His duty required he remain detached, observe, analyze, and act with force when necessary.

He made only one fatal mistake – he had allowed himself to become emotionally involved with those he was meant to protect. Not only had he failed to protect, he'd failed to rescue them from their own idealistic folly.

Now Lester wanted him to return. So he could fail again? Or was Lester, in his own way, rescuing him?
