Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pairing: Zuko/Sokka
Prompt: Goodbye
Sokka sighed as he stared over the edge of Appa's saddle as the Fire Nation palace disappeared from sight. When it was completely gone he turned and settled into his corner, his injured leg stretched out in front of him. Why had that been so hard? He sighed again.
"Is your leg bothering you Sokka?" Katara asked looking back at him from her spot next to Aang.
"No, I'm just tired." And depressed. Goodbyes shouldn't leave a person feeling this way. He was going to see Zuko again…so why did this feel so… so… final? "I'm going to sleep for a bit. Wake me when we get somewhere."
Katara frowned as she watched Sokka pull his blanket from his pack and settle down with it. This was so unlike her brother, she had thought he would be excited to go home but instead he just looked sad. Was it because their father had decided to sail back rather than ride Appa with them? And Sokka didn't go with the other warriors? "Something's wrong," she told Aang.
The young Avatar glanced over at her and then back at Sokka. "Aw, he's just tired Katara. It's been a long past few months. It probably just needs to sink in that we don't have the run or fight anymore."
"Maybe… but I think there's more to it than that."
"You can ask him when he wakes up," Aang suggested. Katara thought about it for a moment and nodded. Yeah, she'd do that.
Back at the other end of the saddle Sokka's eyes tightened as he dreamed. His dreams were full of burning golden eyes under a mess of black hair. Burning golden eyes begging him not to go.
