I had never thought I would get any of my old life back after the zombie apocalypse. It was serious business now-making sure everybody stayed alive, making sure there were enough health kits, enough ammo. You know, serious stuff.

Which is why when i saw that tiny, pixelated screen sitting in the corner of the saferoom, I almost fell flat on my ass.

"Louis...is that a GameBoy Advance?" I tentatively asked my friend who was sitting closest to it. I didn't want to get my hopes up.

"Hey, it is a GameBoy! Good eye, Zoey, this is-OW!" I pounced on him, completely unable (or unwilling) to control my joy.

"OH. MY. GOD! It still has batteries in it and everything! This is so awesome!" I turned it on in a hurry, the welcoming ping and rainbow letters made me squeal like a little girl.

"Jeez, Zoey, it's not like you just won the lottery or something, it's a kiddie game." I ignored Francis, because I was staring at the Holy Grail of GameBoy games.

Pokémon Fire Red. I almost cried. There wasn't even any save data for me to feel bad about erasing.

THREE HOURS LATER

"You know, Zoey, we could have used those batteries for flashlights."

"Shut up, Bill, I'm trying to level up my Charmander."
