He wouldn't admit it to anyone. No one could know. It was something of a denial he ingrained into even his own mind. There would never be any acknowledgement of these feelings. Any of them.
He said it was all about his brother. He said it was all about saving him. Bringing him back. Rescuing him from the hell that he himself had brought upon the only person he had left. He said that he took no joy in anything he did to this end. He said that he didn't care about Ianything/i but getting his brother back; he said he would give it all up in a heartbeat, if there was another way.
He said, he said, he said.
But words were just words. Words meant nothing next to his actions, even less when put up against his emotions, his feelings.
Maybe somewhere, in the beginning, it had started out as what he said. He'd come to her seeking answers, seeking power. He'd come to her seeking a way to save the only person he had left.
He had someone else now.
He could deny it with his words, with his thoughts, with his very being, and it would never stop being true. Somewhere, this desperate need had turned to a dark, dark desire. He needed this power, for far more than what he had set out to do. He needed her.
Was it love? Perhaps, perhaps not. Truthfully, he would never know for sure, because to discover the truth would mean facing the truth. It would mean admitting to the thrill being with her sent coursing through him, that using this power gave. So he would never admit it, and he would deny the truth to even himself, and he would never speak of the deep, dark things that welled with him.
