A/N -cough- There's no explaining this one away. It was sort of just an odd notion that popped into my head and refused to go away. Pretty much happens in place of the last scene in Robot.

That's Mrs. To You

The Doctor peered into the lab, eyes slipping over his TARDIS to land on the room's only occupant. Grinning, he slipped through the door towards her. She turned at the sound of his footsteps, a tiny amused smile on her face.

"Well Sarah," he paused briefly, enjoying the way his new voice rumbled with the sound of her name. "Ready?" The Doctor felt distinctly uneasy at the look that crossed her face at his question, and his grin fell away.

"Oh.. Doctor.."

"Yes?"

"I can't," she said simply.

"Can't?" He saw her flinch at his outburst. "Can't?" He repeated, slightly quieter. "Whoever said you can't?"

"Well no one," Sarah looked a little irritated that he seemed to think someone could stop her. "It's just," her expression softened to one the Doctor had never seen before. "Well.. I'm getting married." A small, happy smile took residence on her face.

There was a moment of silence after the information fell, and the Doctor had adopted an expression that seemed to imply he was having a difficult time defining the word 'married'.

"To who?" He asked, voice a great deal softer than it had been previously.

"Allistair."

The Doctor immediately exploded again. "Allistair? Allistair! You're marrying the Brigadier?" His voice carried out the last syllable as if it was distasteful.

A look fell across Sarah's face that implied the Doctor was in trouble. It was a look he had a distinct recollection of seeing before.

"Yes." She crossed her arms, jaw setting.

"But.. but.." he ran his hand through his hair, trying to work out what obviously wasn't a problem, though it felt like one. "Mrs. Lethbridge-Stewart?" He asked pathetically, coming up with nothing else to say.

"Lethbridge-Stewart-Smith," she corrected him.

The Doctor's mouth fell open. "Sarah Jane Lethbridge-Stewart-Smith?"

"That's Mrs. Sarah Jane Anne Marie Lethbridge-Stewart-Smith." She took several steps forward and poked him in the chest. Hard. "And don't you forget it."

The Doctor floundered. "That's.. that's..."

Allistair looked up from his papers at the sound of frantic footsteps, frowning at the solider that had just rather hurriedly entered his office. The man looked nervous and a little frightened, which oddly irritated the Brigadier. They had just started cleaning up the mess left by the think tank lot and their robot, he did not want another crisis on his hands.

"What is it man?" He barked, knowing he was taking out his frustration on the wrong person.

The young man flinched but managed to shakily respond. "It's.. it's the D-doctor sir."

"What's the man done now?" Allistair sighed.

"He's uh.. kidnapped your fiance sir."
