Story

Song Lyrics

Yami steps out of his ice cold shower and wraps a towel around his to thin waist before he looks at himself in the mirror. His tanned face is streaked with tears, his once bright and happy crimson eyes are now dull and glassy, and they're also filled with more tears that threaten to fall down his chiseled face. His hand finds their way up to lay over the place where his broken heart lay in pieces in his chest. "Why?..." the teenager asks the mirror, "why did you take him?...It's not fair!"

He raised his hand and punched the mirror as hard as he could, sending glass shards everywhere. "Give him back!" He screamed and collapsed into a heap on the floor. Blood from his cut hand and tears mixed as he covered his face to sob.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most

Wear the pain like a heavy coat, feel you everywhere I go

"Yami….oh Yami my boy." Solomon came to investigate the racket and found the former Pharaoh in complete pieces in the bathroom floor. He sunk to the ground beside the broken boy and pulled him into a hug.

"It's not fair grandpa….they took him from me…." Yami whispered, the sound of his voice held so much pain.

"I know my boy, I know. We all miss him but Yugi wouldn't want this for his friends and family, especially not for you. Yugi loved you more than anything. He would want you to be happy again someday." He said, holding back his own tears.

"It hurts so much…it's like a breath taking ache that I can't stop….." Yami chocked out, bringing a hand up to the dog-tag Yugi had given him. The words 'Y&Y Forever' were carved into the silver surface.

I see your smile

I see your face

I hear you laughing in the rain

Solomon shushed the young boy and ran a soothing hand through his hair. "I know son, but it's only been a few months….it takes time to heal these things."

Yami shook his head. "I will never heal without him…..there's no way."

Solomon smiled sadly. He knew his grandson would never want the people he loved so dearly to hurt like this but the eighteen year old boy had been ripped away so suddenly. He looked down and noticed blood hand soaked the towel around Yami. "Yami your hand is bleeding!" He exclaimed. "Here come to the sink."

Yami stood up slowly and followed the older man to the sink and allowed him to clean his bloody, cut up hand. His face was down casted

It ain't fair you died to young,'

Like a story that had just begun, but death ripped the pages all away.

God only knows how I miss you, all the hell that I've been through,

Just knowin' no-one could take your place.

An' sometimes I wonder,

Who'd you be today?

Yami had allowed Solomon to clean his hand and take his mind off the pain ever so slightly, just enough that it wasn't crippling anymore. He had promised his friends he would go out with them today, and he didn't want to upset them so he got dressed and sat down on his bed to wait, still fighting off tears.

Yami a reason to cry, he had a reason to want to lay down and just wait for death but he didn't because he still had people that needed him even though the one thing he loved most was gone. He was gone. Yugi was gone. It took so long for Yami to accept the fact that his little one was gone, he still wishes he'd wake up from this horrible dream to find the perfect angel asleep in his arms.

During the times Yugi had been Yami's host, they had fought so many battles together, side by side. As one. And Yugi stayed strong. Never fell down for more than a minute before he was up and fighting again but it only took one bullet to knock him down for good, where a thousand beatings only left small scratches.

It's true Yugi had been caught in a hit and run when him and Yami had been walking home from their first date as a real couple. Yami couldn't have been happier than he was right then while swinging his and Yugi's intertwined hands back and forth. But, that happiness soon faded when the shots began and they shooters fired at everyone on the sidewalk, they hit Yugi who fell to the ground with a scream and a gun-shot wound to the chest. Yami had gently lowered to the ground and held him in his arms as Yugi said things like "Yami, I love you but when I die in a few minutes just know I want you to be happy in this world without me" but Yami didn't believe it as true. He was sure Yugi wouldn't die, until Yugi gave one heart wrenching cough and died with his last words being "I'll always love you..." At that moment Yami broke down he screamed to the Gods to give Yugi back to him but it didn't work, it wasn't going to work. He sat there with his dead one and only love until the police came and forced the sobbing boy off the corpse that was once known as a cute innocent boy who loved the outdoors, danced and laughed in the rain, and had a big heart.

When he had been given his own body after the final duel he and Yugi had been so happy to start their lives together but it was all gone now, all Yami had left now was pain, memories and questions.

Will I see you on the otherside Yugi? Why did they take you at such a young age? Why must the gods put me through so much pain? If you were still alive, who would you be today? Would you still be the cute innocent boy you once were? Or would you have grown up into a rebelious young man?

All of them are and mostly likely will always remain unanswered.

Would you see the world? Would you chase your dreams?

Settle down with a family,

I wonder what you would name your babies?

Some days the shy's so blue, I feel like I can talk to you,

An' I know it might sound crazy

When it rained he could see him and Yugi outside spinning in the falling rain. Every time he would hang out with their friends, everything they did reminded him of Yugi. He even got gut wrenching pains in his heart whenever he saw Seto Kiaba walking down the street with Mokuba tagging happily along-side him. Why can't that be me and Yugi? He would always ask himself. But, the only answer he could find was. It just wasn't meant to be. But no matter how strong Yami made it look like he was it didn't stop the tears that fell until he was asleep every night.

It ain't fair you died too young,

Like the story that had just begun,

But death tore the pages all away.

God knows how I miss you

all the hell that I've been through.

Just knowin' no-one could take your place.

An' sometimes I wonder,

Who you'd be today?

His friends knew to watch what they said around him because it only took one memory to snap him back into sadness. Today Yami vowed to follow Yugi's words and try to be happy without him. Even though it pained Yami to act as if Yugi never existed he knew his aibou would want him to be happy again and smile.

Today,Today,Today.

Today, Today, Today.

Yami, after getting tired of sitting on his bed waiting, stood up and began his slow walk down the stairs. He stopped mid-step when his eye caught the gold picture frame on the wall. It was the picture that Yugi's grandfather had taken of them the day Yugi had won his first duel tournament without Yami in his body. They looked so happy with Yugi held tightly around the waist by Yami who stood behind him, each of them holding up their dark magician cards, with a smile.

Yami and Solomon had kept Yugi's deck, duel disk, and well all of Yugi's stuff. His room is exactly as he left it before they left on their first and final date. Yami would often venture in there to just remember Yugi, run his hands over the many artifacts that were strategically placed on the dresser. He would still go in even though he always exited the room with tears running down his face.

Solomon had asked them to have separate rooms when Yami first became a real person. He stated that they should get to know each other better before entering into a relationship. The two had agreed but Yami would always sneak into Yugi's room late at night, and looking back now he was sure grandpa knew about it.

Sunny days seem to hurt the most.

I wear the pain like a heavy coat.

The only thing that gives me hope,

Is to know I'll see you again someday.

Yami stared at the picture, with tears running down his face until he was embraced by five people. "Yami we all miss him" Tea had said. "Yami don't let them take you away from us like they did Yugi" Ryou said. "Yams I don't know what I would do if you left us too" Joey said looking into Yami's dead crimson eyes. "Yami you'll...we all will see him again someday…it's just a matter of waiting" Tristan said with a slight reassuring smile. Malik just hugged him, never being good at these things.

Marik and Bakura stood at the bottom of the stairs. They could understand the pain the young teen was going though. The thought of losing their lights tore them up in side too.

"C'mon man let's go have a good time, he would want that." Joey said taking Yami's arm.

Some day,

Some day,

Some day

Yami nodded and followed his friends out the door while drying his tears. "I just wish I knew who he would be right now if he was still here" Yami mumbled. "Us too" echoed the friends as they walked out the house, tears drying on their faces.

But, they didn't hear the answer as the door closed.

"I'd be yours Yami..."

Thank you for reading! And look out for the epilogue!
