Chapter 7
Authors note: this is the part from the movie (I wrote it while watching it but I had to change it up a bit! Just a reminder, I don't own Narnia or anything about it)
p.s. Just listening to The Call by Regina Spektor while reading this makes it so much more alive like the movie!
Narnia belongs to the Narnians just as it does to man. Any Telmarines who want to stay in peace are welcome to. But for any of you who wish, Aslan will return you to the land of our for fathers." Caspian said to the large group of Telmarines, Narnians, Aslan and Pevensies. He was standing in the courtyard next to a large tree. The moment had come, Aslan was opening the magic passageway from Narnia to the other world. With one breath, the tree moved, making an opening between the twisted trunk. Caspian's aunt among a few others decided to go through. They made their way into the opening and disappeared.
"Where did they go?" "What has he done?" All these questions arose with the mumbling of the Telmarines left watching. They still had their doubts about Aslan and his great powers. "How do we know he isn't leading them to our death?"
Aslan looked at Peter, who then turned to Susan. "We'll go" Peter said bravely.
"We will?" Edmund asked. He knew it was time but his nerves kept him wanting to stay.
Peter walked over to Edmund. "Come on, our time is up." He said to his family. Then he walked over to face Caspian slowly. "After all, we're not really needed here anymore," he said, pulling out his sword and holding it out for Caspian.
Caspian's eyes widened as he looked at the sword, then at Peter before grabbing the sword firmly. "I will look after it with my life," he stated powerfully.
The four Pevensie's walked over to the line of Narnians that they had grown attached to over the duration of their journey. They all bowed to each other and hugged and shared last words. Susan came to Caspian, whose face showed sadness and pain.
"I'm glad I came back," Susan said softly, now standing in front of Caspian.
"I wish we had more time together," Caspian replied woefully.
Susan tried to smile. "We'd never of worked out anyways," she said.
Caspian felt a sting of pain in his stomach when Susan said that. He looked at her puzzled. "Why not?"
"I am thirteen hundred years older than you," Susan replied, able to smile this time. And Caspian smiled back. They stood there for a moment in silence before Susan turned to walk away. She looked at Peter who gave her a nod. Caspian's eyes fell to the ground and Susan stalled. Quickly she turned around and put her hand on the back of Caspian's neck. She kissed him passionately on the lips, their foreheads leaning against each others. What seemed like minutes past before Caspian embraced Susan lovingly. His head rested on her shoulder and Susan squeezed him.
Behind them, Peter smiled.
"I'm sure when I'm older I'll understand," Lucy whispered. Peter laughed.
"I'm older and I'm not sure I want to understand," Edmund said although he was also smiling at his sister, still in Caspian's arms.
Caspian let go of Susan as she started to turn away, giving one last look to the man that she had come to love. Smiling, she found her way to her siblings. Peter took her hand, squeezed it and let it go slowly. Susan knew that the gesture was his way of looking out for his sister. She looked at Lucy who grabbed her other hand and held it.
Edmund was the first to turn to the tree and the others followed. Lucy gave one look back at everything before stepping into the tree as well. That was it. They were back in London, waiting for the train like nothing had happened. They looked at each other smiling at the fact that only they knew of the adventure that they had just come from. A tear formed in Susan's eye but she smiled to herself because she knew that the tear was not out of sadness but out of love. She knew that no matter what happened in her future, she was never going to forget Caspian and he was never going to forget her. I love you Caspian, she thought. Then she felt a warm sensation in her heart as if it were Caspian responding to her. I love you too.
