Kakashi adjusted the collar of his black dress shirt and pulled down on the edge of his white sport coat before sitting down with a sigh and leaning his face on his hand. He scanned the crowed to see if his date was already there. A kunoichi with dark purple hair, wearing an even darker purple, strapless dress and a baby blue shawl caught his eye. If his date wasn't here, he figured he'd go chat with other people. His heart nearly leapt out of his chest when he realized that the beautiful girl he had seen WAS his date.
She looked at him, a little confused by his surprised reaction. She jumped when she realized he was standing directly in front of her, unaware of how much she had spaced.
"Hey, Anko-san. You look beautiful tonight." Kakashi said, scratching the back of his head.
"You saying I don't normally?" She growled in reply, holding up her fist.
"No! Not at all!" He answered, holding up his hands in surrender."Forgive me?"
"Fine." She sighed angrily.
Kakashi felt his shirt get a little tighter as he looked into her eyes. He lightly placed his hand on the side of her face, making her cringe a little.
"You're…so beautiful. I…" Kakashi began as he placed his hands on her shoulders and pulled her closer. He took one hand off her shoulder and hooked his finger on the inside of his mask and pulled it off.
Anko's cheeks began to turn pink as she looked at her boyfriend's face for the first time. She looked down at the floor, unsure of what to say. He was so handsome; it made her feel so insignificant.
He placed his hands on the sides of her face. "Are you alright, Anko?"
She looked up at him and smiled. "Yeah. I'm fine."
He looked a little skeptical, but decided it would be best not to persist. He let his hands slide down onto her back as he pulled her closer. He could feel her tense up in his arms; he could tell she was still uncomfortable. He moved one of his hands up onto the back of her head and his lips lightly touched to hers. His eyes slid shut, but she didn't let hers.
Kakashi broke the kiss and pulled his mask up before pulling her tightly into his embrace. Anko seemed surprised.
Tonight had been the quickest their relationship had gone in one night. Not only had he taken his mask off, he'd kissed her. She felt his hand come away from her back and felt it slide into his pocket, directly over her stomach. She pulled away.
"What are you doing?" She shouted, feeling a little violated.
Kakashi smiled as he produced a small box from his pocket.
"I have a question for you, Anko." He said softly as he opened the small box, revealing a beautiful engagement ring. "Will you marry me?"
There was a chorus oohs and ahhs followed by squeals of joy from the girls behind them.
"DO IT, ANKO!" Her best friend Kurenai shouted from behind her. "SAY YES!"
Anko didn't know what to say. The idea of marriage frightened her, but she didn't want to admit it.
"Well?" Kakashi asked with a smile, "Will you?"
Anko couldn't seem to find anything to say, so Kakashi answered for her as he slid the ring onto her finger.
"Wait! What?" She stammered, "I didn't answer!"
Kakashi picked her up and looked down at her, a smile on his face. "You do love me, right?"
She couldn't deny that. She deeply loved Kakashi, but the idea of becoming too attached sent shivers down her spine and horrible memories of her childhood to go flashing through her head.
"I promise you that I'll be there for you. Now and forever. I love you and can't wait any longer to show you that." He muttered in her ear as he pressed his head lightly into her soft purple hair.
Anko smiled. Maybe getting married was the perfect thing for her to get over her past.
"I love you, too Kakashi. Let's set a date."
