Hi there :D Thanks for clicking. This was just a thought that popped into my head today. Hope you enjoy!

Eugene sat, staring at the chessboard, thinking. He leaned forward, observing the move Rapunzel had just done. He raised his eyes to Rapunzel, who was grinning.

"What?" Eugene asked.

"Nothing," Rapunzel replied quickly. Eugene squinted his eyes at her and looked back at the board. He lifted his hand and was about to pick up his knight, but changed his mind. He moved his hand over to his bishop and moved it three spaces forward.

"Hmmm…" Rapunzel focused in on the board as Eugene put his hands behind his head and leaned back in his chair confidently. She held her rook but didn't move it. Changing her mind, she grabbed her knight and began to move him, but Eugene grabbed her wrist.

"I don't think so, princess," He said. She looked up at him, bewildered.

"What? What did I do?" Eugene laughed.

"Once you touch a piece, you have to move that one." Rapunzel snapped her hand back.

"Well, that's stupid!"

"After all those years of playing with Pascal, he never taught you that?" Eugene asked, teasing her.

"No! That's a stupid rule anyway. And you've done it before! I saw you!"

"Me? What are you talking about? I would never do such a thing," Eugene replied, mock-insulted.

"Eugene Fitzherbert," Rapunzel said sternly. They stared one another down, and Eugene finally broke.

"All right, fine! Go ahead, do what you were going to do." Rapunzel's mood instantly lifted and she continued on to move her piece. Eugene seemed to have planned what he was going to do because he instantly moved his queen.

"Check," He said, happily. Rapunzel leaned forward and nearly had her nose pressed against the board. After minutes of observing, she suddenly jerked upward, a gigantic smile on her face.

"What? What!" Eugene leaned forward as well. Rapunzel grabbed her bishop and moved him four spaces.

"Check. Mate. Hah! I beat you!" Eugene looked confusedly from the board to Rapunzel.

"What… How did you… I didn't know…" Rapunzel continued to laugh and even jumped up and began dancing.

"I told you I could beat you!" Eugene still didn't know how she won. He leaned back, sighing in defeat.

"Well… you proved me wrong, Blondie," He said to her. "I never knew that someone could be such a good chess player by playing against a chameleon."

"Hey, Pascal is a good chess player!" Rapunzel sat back down. "You're just upset because I beat you at something." That was partially true.

"I have to say… you really know your chess."

"That's right, I do!" Eugene laughed.

"You know, Blondie, I think a little cheering up may be in order." Rapunzel fell serious.

"Do you?"

"Yeah. I'm feeling a little defeated. Think you can help?" Rapunzel tried hard not to smile, but that didn't work very well.

"I think so," Rapunzel replied as Eugene grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him. Just as their lips were centimeters apart, Rapunzel pulled away. She leapt up from the chair and began walking out the door, waving her arm.

"Maybe next time, Eugene Fitzherbert. That is, if you can beat me!"

XXXXXXXXX

Eugene began playing chess with Pascal everyday from then on.

That was a fun one to write :) Hope you had as much fun reading it as I had writing it. Please review. I don't want to beg, so please make me happy! I was always taught that if you touch a piece, you have to move it. I don't know if that's a made up rule or not… but who cares? Thanks again for reading!
