Hello my little powder puffs!
It is I! The great xglittergigglesx! And the fantastic HarunoRin! Also known as ShoKat Duo (not really. I literally just made that up.)
OK so I am so, beyond, super sorry that you sexy little devils have been waiting SIX FREAKING YEARS for this update. I honestly wouldn't blame any of you if you'd given up hope and thought this story abandoned. And I'm sure HarunoRin feels the same. However...y'know, we started writing this when we were 21 and did shitty bar jobs and waitress jobs and whatnot. Now we have Adult Jobs(!). That's right. I work in with stocks and investments (ridiculous. Who in their right mind trusts me with money?!) and HarunoRin...well, I personally think that when she's not speaking to me, she just cries in a little cardboard box because she misses me THAT MUCH. But she claims(lies) that she's now a marketing manager for an insurance company. Apparently.
But no, seriously. We now have serious jobs and long term boyfriends (I've been with mine for 4 years now. lolwut. We live together. Our anniversary is next week. I'm all...domestic and shit. HarunoRin and her boyf have just bought a flat!) and responsibilities. So...yeah. Life got in the way of us writing more.
Pretty much we've been (In HarunoRin's words) 'Busy doing grown up stuff and we're sick of it so bring on more fanfiction please'.
So, onto the main event: We have this chapter finally explaining what the hell was wrong with John in the last chapter. And then an almost complete chapter and a 2/3 complete chapter after that.
ALSO: Can I just say that this is not meant to offend anyone. I know that religion is a touchy subject these days and if you're Catholic and don't like to have it being used as a silly plot point, or making fun of religious beliefs - well, I wouldn't say it's making fun of Catholicism, more John and his poor brain which has been melted by the idiots he works with - then skip to the end of this chapter where a cliff notes version will be written, OK? You have been warned so no angry reviews about it kthnx.
I have nothing against any religions - unless it starts heavily influencing politics - and HarunoRin and I both identify as nondenominational Protestants. And if John was a protestant, I would make fun of him just the same way as I'm making fun of Catholicism. Either everything is fair game, or nothing is.
On a side note: If Catholic people have got it right, after this chapter, I'm totally burning in hell.
The following story is a collab between myself and HarunoRin. It's a series of emails, texts and notes between the core members of the SPR staff.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallow be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
It has only been 2 hours since my last prayer to you. But I have come to realise something that gravely concerns me, and it is with a prayer to you and your son, that I beg for the strength I need to do what I must.
I pray to you now with a heavy heart, yet with a curious lightening of the soul that so often accompanies discovering one's higher purpose.
When I came to Japan two years ago, after discussing the overwhelming evil that seemed to constantly surround Japan with the Archbishop of Melbourne, I could not have imagined the horrors and depravity I have seen - the ghosts of innocent children and demons, people who died so far from your light that they were twisted into unspeakable evil beings.
But now, I am at a loss.
I believe that the current head of Shibuya Psychic Research is operating under an alias. We have long known that Oliver Davis is unusually fond of secrecy but we merely believed it was for personal reasons...I am no longer so sure.
You know I have struggled with this, but I have never put it so surely into words before. Davis has a darkness to him that is often teased by his colleagues but I believe it goes much deeper than they know. Davis has a blackness of the soul that denies him even the relief that the young Miss Taniyama is able to provide to everyone else.
Ah, Miss Taniyama. The single light in the darkness of this country. Never have I met a soul so pure and good. Surely, if you were to born your son into this world once again, she would be the perfect vessel. Light shines from her in a way I have never seen before, almost blindingly so. I often find myself awake at nights with thoughts of her purity and smile...
But now I fear for her. For one of the Morning Stars agents in disguise is try to corrupt her, sink his claws into her purity and drag her down to his level. They have been close friends and companions for a long time, and at first I hoped Miss Taniyama's purity would help cleanse him. I fear he is too strong for even her innocence to breach.
But Yasuhara Osamu is not the biggest threat to your plan, or to Miss Taniyama.
Oliver Davis is evil in its purest form. He walks on the Lord's earth as though it is open to him but it is my responsibility as your advocate to ensure the Devil does not prevail.
I will try to exorcise him. I will try to destroy him.
Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands.
I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that you lend me strength to deal with my trouble.
Amen.
TLDR : John is pretty much sure Naru is the Devil himself and Yasuhara is one of his minions. Oh, and Mai is a shining beacon of goodness and purity whom he perhaps admires JUST A LITTLE TOO MUCH. So yes...that's why he tried to exorcise Naru last chapter.
