*Revised 08-2016
Hi everyone! First, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been following this so far. You are all awesome and play a huge part in what I am attempting to start today. I will try to make this is brief and coherent as possible.
As of today, I am REWRITING this crossover. I am still unsure how much of an overhaul this will be, but the structure of the story will most likely remain as it is. I have no plans to dissect every chapter and make it into something completely different, but I DO want to go through and make sure that what has already been written flows naturally into the newer chapters.
YES, there will be new chapters. I can't say exactly when... I honestly don't have much time for writing but I would like to at the very least find some sort of ending to the more popular works that I have on this site. You have all been so kind with your words and encouragement that I would like to also do my part in finishing what I started. That said... it will probably be a slow process. I will try to keep it somewhat consistent.
I do recommend going through and re-reading the chapters as I rework them on the chance that I add new bits.
Author Notes from the past~
A few notes before we begin! After this chapter I will try to keep future notes short and sweet :)
1. Plots taken from Soul Eater and Harry Potter will be loose. While I am still a huge Harry Potter and Soul Eater fan it has been ages since I watched or read any material and I just don't have the time I would like to go and refresh myself. This crossover serves as an alternative plot.
2. DWMA cast will NOT be students. They will, however, have many interactions with the other characters.
3. Structure of the plot is not set in stone, so while I have a general idea of where this is going I like to keep it flexible and allow the characters to explore the world themselves.
4. Important : Following the anime as far as naming conventions go when referring to the corrupted souls that become a "Kishin Egg". I will try to keep it consistent as possible but may take some liberties when talking about the same from the Wizard side of things. For quick reference:
Kishin will obviously be known as simply Kishin.
Soul Eater world - Corrupted Souls, Kishin Eggs, Pre-Kishin, ect.
Harry Potter world- Similar, but more will unfold :) Hoping to try some lore building.
5. Lastly, while this technically is set in HP book 5, I probably won't follow the standard plot. I am also trying to avoid over-saturating this crossover with Umbridge...
Oh.. uh.. while I will be using the English names for majority of characters, I prefer to go with Shinigami-sama for Death, vs Lord Death because it just.. reads better.
Thanks for sticking around, enjoy!
Chapter 1: A Threat Emerges ~
"Soul, have you seen Black Star or Tsubaki?" Maka asked, her steps quick and purposeful as she walked down the halls of the Death Weapon Meister Academy. Her partner shrugged, causing Maka to heave a sigh in response. "Shinigami-sama wishes to meet with us, but I couldn't find them anywhere."
They paused their quick pace, Soul leaning against the wall with a relaxed grin. "My guess is that they are already there," he said. Maka started in surprise. The idea never crossed her mind that they might get there before her.
Disappointed, Maka turned in the direction of the Death Room, dragging Soul behind her and quickening her pace.
"Shiniga-" Maka began as she walked into the Death Room. She cut off immediately when she noticed that there were more than just Black Star, Tsubaki, and Death himself present. There were strangers, the like of which she had never seen before.
The pair, situated a respectful distance between the Shinigami and the others, were an oddity. The taller of the two was a man with long, silvery hair and a matching white beard, that of which was tied neatly with a silver rope. His blue robes were made of a light blue silk and was complemented with floppy, wide brimmed hat that ended with a point. Half-moon spectacles rested on a straight nose and hid eyes that twinkled with knowing and mischief. He nodded at Maka and Soul in greeting.
The woman at his side did not seem as welcoming. She was perhaps younger than her companion, traces of black hair were visible under her own hat - one that wasn't nearly so floppy - and while her stern face showed signs of age, the wrinkles were not terribly deep. Her own robes were more feminine and of a deep purple, showing traces of sturdy healed boots underneath. She stood stiffly and observed.
"Shinigami-sama," Maka said again, though now her tone was guarded. "Who are these people?"
.
.
After a quick and awkward round of greetings, it was discovered that the newcomers had traveled a very long distance from England. They were the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, and Deputy Headmistress, Minerva McGonagall of a school that neither of the students present had ever heard of. Hogwarts. A school of magic.
Briefly, it was explained that there were an abnormal number of Kishin Eggs surfacing in the area. To those from England this came as a surprise. They had not dealt with the Dark Ones, as they were named overseas, in hundreds of years. For the Meister's and their partners, the idea that witches and wizards existed in such mass populations, seemingly unnoticed by the DWMA, was unnerving.
"Your souls are different," Maka commented during a quick discussion of what Dumbledore and McGonagall really were. "You are a witch," Maka said, referring to McGonagall, perplexed. "Yet you are not..."
It was then that the Shinigami explained the difference between the two types of witches, and now wizards, known to the world. While there were witches and wizards that existed in vast populations, they were quite different than the less common, and usually sinister, witches encountered by those residing in Death City. The strangers in question were merely humans born with innate magic, similar to the souls of a witch, but distinct enough to go mostly unnoticed by all except those specially trained to spot them. In their case, only few human wizards strayed far enough away from the light to be severely disciplined by their government, The Ministry of Magic.
Tsubaki, quiet through most of the discussion, raised her gaze in question. "Why has this been kept such a secret?" Her frown deepened into an expression more serious than her normal calm.
It was Dumbledore answered. "It was necessity that caused us to break contact. This, in part, was due to the very obvious misunderstandings placed on our kind by your own encounters with witches." The corners of his mouth turned down in distaste before he continued. "The past was unfortunate and disastrous to both sides. It was only when an event such as our meeting today arose that we finally came together in mutual understanding. Afterwards, it was best to let memory fade from the many... leaving the burden of that knowledge to those who would not abuse it."
Seeing that all in the room were silent, Dumbledore continued with his own plea for help. "In our part of the world these Dark Ones, the Kishin Eggs, are becoming dangerous. We are not equipped to handle the threat on our own and I fear that they may be seeking a terrible alliance with another. A wizard whose core is as corrupt as those you call Kishin. If that were to happen... well, it would be disastrous."
Maka took a determined step forward, crossing her arms over her chest. There were other questions that needed to be answered before she could put any trust in the man, or the woman that accompanied him. "Why were you sent to carry this information? I would have expected to hear from a government or military official... what was it, the Ministry of Magic? Why would help be requested from the headmaster of a school? How do you even know about us if so many others have forgotten?" The tone of her questions was curious, probing, searching for any flaw in their conversations so far.
The elderly wizard smiled in what he hoped was a disarming manner. "You are correct in your doubts," he replied. "However, I often find that the Ministry is slow to act and even slower to admit in that which they fear. As such, I make it my duty as Headmaster to obtain the knowledge that I need in order to protect my students. It was I that first approached the Minister and only just now have made enough progress within the government itself to organize this request."
Maka nodded gravely. Only fools refuse to accept that which is true and right in front of their faces. The explanation would do for now.
Soul placed his fist together and grinned wickedly. "So," he announced. "I'm guessing you're wanting us to take care of those few nasty souls? McGonagall shifted, unsettled by the youth. Dumbledore placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, taking care to hide his own discomfort.
"That is our request," Dumbledore replied simply.
"What are we going to do, Shinigami-sama?" Maka asked. Sure, a part of her wanted to help. Any threat involving Kishin or the like required serious consideration, but there were matters closer to home that kept them continuously occupied. The Witch, Medusa, was at their head...
The Shinigami considered only for a moment before turning to face his students. "I will dispatch a team," he began, going through the plan in his head as he said it aloud to his audience. "You four will accompany Kid, Elizabeth, and Patricia for this mission-" the plan continued, before abruptly being interrupted by a certain red haired Death Scythe barging through the previously closed door.
"Shinigami-sama!" Spirit yelled, surprising only the newcomers. The two wizards jumped slightly in alarm, but the others were still. Only Maka showed her distaste, frowning and crossing her arms as she observed her father confronting Shinigami-sama. "You can't send Maka that far away! England? It's too dangerous?"
By this point Spirit was on the verge of tears, leaving the Shinigami to rub the back of his head sheepishly. The two exchanged heated words and left the others to watch awkwardly. Maka's frown only deepened.
It was then that door opened once more. All eyes turned to watch as Death the Kid and his two weapon partners, Liz and Patty, casually entered the Death Room.
Kid quickly passed a calculating gaze over everyone in the room and then raised a hand friendly greeting. "Yo," he said simply. Liz and Patty echoed his greeting with waves of their own before going to stand with the others.
"You're late Kid," Shinigami-sama scolded playfully. Honestly, it was almost impossible to make Shinigami-sama truly mad, especially at his son.
Kid's eyebrows furrowed in slight annoyance, "I came straight here. I was halfway across the desert, if you remember."
In the hour that followed, Shinigami-sama caught Kid, Liz, and Patty up on the current situation, having already done so with Maka and Soul when they first arrived after Black Star and Tsubaki. Kid was upset that his father never shared this information with him in the past, and voiced it openly, with the only response being that it would have been done once Kid was older.
Spirit's nerves were later put to rest when Dumbledore promised to offer assistance that he could offer. Shinigami-sami also mentioned that an adult supervisor would be needed for the mission, but that it was still undecided who should go. Spirit readily volunteered, but a glare from his daughter and the reminder that he should stay within the city and remain by Shinigami-sama's side should he be needed as a weapon quickly shut him down.
Professor Stein, despite being Sprit's old partner, would go in his place. Personally, Maka wasn't sure which she preferred less. At least it would not be as awkward for her with Professor Stein as it would have been with her father.
With those details worked out it was then officially declared that the team would be sent to England to work with the Aurors in tracking down any threats determined to be caused by a Kishin eggs or similarly corrupted souls. It was also added, rather unexpectedly, that Dumbledore feared that one of his students specifically might be targeted.
"His name is Harry Potter," Dumbledore explained, briefly touching on the events that grew into a dark wizard's plot to put an end to the Boy-Who-Lived. "No doubt if the two forces are working together, Voldemort and these corrupted souls, will our young Harry be at greater risk."
Kid raised a thin eyebrow. "So you wish us to guard this one student while also seeing to our other duties?"
Dumbledore nodded patiently. "As well as the school itself, should any threat breach our wards. It might be easier, in fact, for all parties involved if the team you provide stay at Hogwarts for the duration of your mission." Shinigami-sama accepted, and the team was sent off soon after.
"Hey, Maka," Black Star said, his arms behind his head and his gaze skyward. The whole group was walking down the long steps leading from the school, given early leave to get packed. "When did Shinigami-sama say we were leaving?" Maka sighed heavily. Her partner, Soul, only looked amused. Tsubaki followed silently behind Black Star, watching the conversation intently. Kid and the Thompson sisters were a few paces ahead. Kid's shoulders were slumped and he stared only at the steps in front of him. No one could see his deep frown.
"Were you even listening, Black Star?" Maka asked, though she knew the obvious answer. "We leave tomorrow, though we aren't suppose to make it to the school until the following day. "
Kid remained quiet, the conversation between him and his father was still stuck in his head. He didn't understand it; the feeling of distrust, the mission, the new witches - no, wizards, he corrected - None of it.
The subject was shifted slightly as Soul made his first real comment of the day. "This whole situation is really uncool."
.
.
The Headmaster of Hogwarts left with his Headmistress soon after the Meisters did, after having a brief discussion with the Shinigami. The three of them still had a fair bit of knowledge to pass around and updates to share on both sides. The threat of the Kishin's eggs and the instability of the Ministry, which still did not believe in the return of Lord Voldemort, worried Dumbledore and Shinigami-sama both. The lack of full support from the Minister of Magic made the mission more complicated, and it was only left under Dumbledore's direct supervision so long as he cooperated with the Aurors. There was disagreement and protest among Ministry officials on Dumbledore's insistence that those from the DWMA stay on Hogwarts grounds, but the argument that the students' protection was to be their greatest concern stood firm. Having those with the expertise to dispose of their threat stationed farther away than necessary would put the students of Hogwarts under risk that could be easily avoided.
With that knowledge shared, Dumbledore extended his arm to Minerva and the two Apparated back to Hogwarts. Once back atop the Astronomy Tower he smiled briefly. Being Headmaster did have some advantages, after all.
.
.
.
"Harry! Wait for us!" Ron said, running to catch up with the young wizard, Hermione following closely behind. They were on their way from the library, Ron having to return a book that was just near over-due. He blamed the essay given to them by Snape wholeheartedly.
"I can't slow down anymore. We'll be late for supper!" Harry replied, slowing his pace down just a little so that the party could catch up. Normally, it wasn't a concern for them to be a little late. Tonight, however, Dumbledore had an announcement to make.
The trio made it into the Great Hall just in time as Dumbledore was stepping up to his podium. Harry, Ron, and Hermione passed him an apologetic look as they went to sit next to the other Gryffindors.
"Good evening, everyone. I hope that your day thus far as been nothing less than extraordinary," Dumbledore began, and the Great Hall quieted down until there was only silence. It had been a while since Dumbledore made any big announcements, the last being the addition of Dolores Umbridge, and very few found that to be welcome news. "Over these past few years, our school has had to undergo several changes in the efforts to keep our students and staff safe from harm. Unfortunately, it has become one of those times once again."
A wave of chatter erupted then. The whole school, teachers and professors alike, were taken by surprise. What did this mean?
"You think it's Voldemort?" Harry asked, turning to look at Ron and Hermione. His expression was calm, though his lips were tight and his emerald eyes were strained. Hermione could see the worry he refused to show.
"I don't know, Harry." Hermione said, reaching out her hand to place it gently on his arm.
"Let's just listen, mate." Ron said, just as Dumbledore's hand rose into the air, signaling once again for silence. Again, the Great Hall was still.
"There have been sightings of an ancient foe that we have not seen for many years. They are known to us as the Dark Ones, or Kishin Eggs. They are usually human-like in appearance, yet similar to Dementors, they devour the souls of other humans. They gain power through murder. I can not stress enough how dangerous they are. To address this, we are presently in contact with those who are experts at dealing with this threat. They come from a school in the States, residing in the harsh deserts of Nevada. The DWMA, it is called, or Death Weapon Meister Academy," Dumbledore finished, allowing for the brief moment of chaos he knew would come.
"Death Weapon? That's a crude name for a school, isn't it?" A student from Hufflepuff yelled out, the Great Hall was silent once more, waiting on a reply.
"It is what they are," Dumbledore answered honestly. "I can not take the time to explain everything, and will leave further questions for you to find on your own. What I will tell you is this: the Dark Ones, these corrupted souls, are capable of turning into what are known only as Kishin. They are powerful forces that are not to be taken lightly, forces that we can not stop on our own. If one were to form in times such as these it would be disastrous. The help we are receiving come from a group of students from the DWMA. Just like the Kishin threat, they are not to be underestimated. They deserve our respect, however, as they are doing a great service to both our school and the wizarding community as a whole. Their ways, though, you will find differ greatly from our own."
Dumbledore took this moment to look at each house in turn, expressing his concern with his intense gaze. "With new danger, comes new rules. There will be no trips outside of Hogwarts without a professor present. Hogsmeade trips, however, will continue as normal, though professors especially are asked to keep a watchful eye. There will be absolutely no visits into the Forbidden Forest, per usual. Finally, I'd like to request that you greet our newcomers with warmth and an open mind. They are not like us, and posses abilities that will seem abnormal, but make no mistake they deserve our kindness and compassion. That is all."
As he stepped down from his podium, Ron couldn't help but comment.
"He's always speaking in that old man talk, isn't he?" Ron said, leaning over with his chin resting on his palms.
"Oh, Ron," Hermione sighed. There really was no hope for him, was there?
"C'mon," Harry said suddenly. He stood up, causing a few students to pass him curious looks. Harry, determined, paid no mind. "I'm going back to the library."
"Harry!" Ron said in protest. "I haven't even eaten supper yet!"
Death the Kid, despite having a million other matters to take care of before he left for England, found that his time would be better spent if he were on his skateboard. Liz and Patty, not in the mood to keep up, opted for their weapon forms which were currently being held loosely in Kid's hands.
"I don't understand why you two always make me hold onto you when we're not in battle," Kid commented, though he wasn't really upset. His mind was elsewhere. "It's very unprofessional."
"Oh, come on Kid," Liz said. "It's not like we could keep up with you when you're riding around."
"Besides," Patty added, in a very cheerful manner. "You never know when you might need us."
As if on cue, a Kishin Egg revealed himself in the nearest alley. Kid made quick work of him, collecting his corrupted soul before heading off once again.
.
.
"Tsubaki!" Black Star yelled loudly as he threw another shirt into his suitcase. Tsubaki entered the room of their apartment cautiously, well aware of her partner's antics. "Do you think this suitcase is big enough for me?"
Tsubaki smiled, relieved that nothing had exploded in one of Black Star's latest attempts at showing off. "I'm sure it will be fine, Black Star. Shinigami-sama said we were going to have the chance to go shopping anyway. Now, come. We have only ten minutes before we have to meet up with Maka and Soul."
"Black Star rushes for no one!"
.
"Come on, Soul. You don't need to pack all off your posters," Maka said. Her rolling suitcase was in hand, all ready to go. Soul, however, wasn't near as prepared.
With a frustrated sigh, Soul closed his own bag and threw it over his shoulder, following Maka out. Tsubaki and Black Star were already waiting in the living room. "Where's Kid?" Soul asked, seeing neither Kid, or the Thompson sisters.
"They're going to meet us at the airport with Stein," Tsubaki said, ushering the rest of the group out. She really didn't want to miss their flight.
An airport... It was an odd thing to get use to, taking transportation that wasn't commonly used by people in Death City. The group seemed mesmerized by the modernization of the airport, and the crowded isolation.
"So, we're really going to take a plane, huh?" Soul asked. I like bikes, but...
"Yep," Maka said, smiling widely. "Exciting, right? Now, let's go find Stein and the others."
"Yeah... cool," Soul said. It would be a interesting ride there...
"Shinigami-sama said that we could have been... um... Apparated I think, but I've always wanted to ride on a plane." Maka said, getting nods of agreement from Tsubaki and Patty. Liz seemed to be sharing the same thoughts as Soul. Kid, however, seemed to be distracted with the alignment of his tie.
"Is this centered?" he muttered.
...A good while later...
"Soul, really?" Maka sighed. Who would have thought Soul could get air-sick? "It wasn't that bad."
"Damn... turbulence," Was all that he said on the matter.
The last contact between Shinigami-sama and the members of the DWMA was just after they arrived safely in London. He gave them the instructions of finding a place called the Leaky Cauldron, where a member of Hogwarts would meet them.
"That's a funny name," Patty commented.
"Sure is," Liz mumbled agreement.
Soon enough, the team arrived at what was known as the Leaky Cauldron much earlier than they expected. The entire ride there was spent chatting avidly about what they could expect. The driver passed a few glances in his rear view mirror, almost gawking at some of what he heard.
A chilly wind blew past the students and their chaperon, Stein, who was more or less irritated to be shipped on another mission so early.
"It's a good thing we dressed for cold weather, huh?" Liz grumbled, rubbing her arms for a surge of warm friction, noting what she was wearing: a red sweater with a white polo underneath, along with jeans and boots. At Shinigami-sama's request, the DWMA students slightly altered their normal attire.
Black Star, openly exclaiming that he would not be defeated by cold weather, only agreed to switching his shorts for actual pants, black to keep up with his assassin appearance. Tsubaki kept much of her usual appearance as well, though she wore a loose, cream sweater with a black tank showing only on her shoulder and leggings under her split skirt with furry boots.
Soul, already a naturally warm dresser, only wore a thicker, black jacket and beanie-like cap, his logo clearly visible. Maka wore her favorite yellow sweater and a nice pair of jeans, also wearing a hat like Soul's.
Patty was dressed similarly to Liz, though she insisted on a skirt and leggings. Kid, looking the most like he usually did, wore a fitted black coat and his normal tie with nice pants.
Stein, on the other hand, didn't seem to own any change of clothes that weren't patched together. Hopefully, he wouldn't stand out too much.
They entered the Leaky Cauldron, relieved that it was nearly deserted at such an early hour. There was only one man working the bar, quietly polishing mugs and dishes as he passed the newcomers a quick greeting. Further along were two others, the larger and tallest of which immediately stood out. Dressed in earthy tones, both his hair and his beard were brown, unkempt busy manes. He stood near the wall next to his companion and attempted to maintain small bits of conversation.
Sitting on a stool next to him and looking completely disinterested was another man. Next to the near giant, he was much more slender in his black robes, and beneath his greasy hair the group could just make out a beak of a nose complemented by a severe stare. Both turned slowly to stare at the new guests.
Professor Stein immediately attempted to break the tense atmosphere. "Looks like we found our guides right on time. Let's start introductions, shall we?"
It did not proceed smoothly. Even with prior warning from Dumbledore, Hagrid and Snape seemed to be caught on several of the students' strange names, Black Star and Death the Kid most of all. And... was that a screw showing between Stein's silver locks?
"Please, call me Kid," Kid amended, looking up with an evil grin. Honestly, who ever said he wasn't allowed to have fun once in a while?
Snape remained silent, accompanying the party only to observe, as they headed over to a table large enough to accommodate everyone.
"Didn' expect so many," Hagrid said, getting as comfortable as he could in the little seat of the tavern. It was dimly lit, the only real immediate light was the arrangement of candles in the center of the table. The rest was lit with flickering lamps.
"Yes, well you have to understand the situation is serious," Stein said, finally taking up his position. "We can't trust this mission in the hands of only a few of our students. As well, we can't afford to ship off all of our best because of our own situations back home."
"Understandable, sure. Dumbledore wishes to thank yeh for the help yer already givin' us," Hagrid said, his accent thick, before moving on to official business. "Now, me and Professor Snape 'ere were sent to do a bit debriefin' to you lot before we allowed yeh all to enter Hogwarts. Dumbledore would 'ave been present, but he an' Professor McGonagall had business with the Ministry. Yeh know how it is with those government types..."
"I see. Please, continue," Stein said, wanting to get to the point. It would be inaccurate to say that this group is in a good mood after the long flight and closely packed car ride."
"'right then, Dumbledore passed me a list o' what he thought would be importan' for yeh all to know," Hagrid began before reaching into one of the many pockets of his coat and pulling out a piece of parchment rolled up like a scroll. He unrolled it and began reading, "First, he would like to point out that our magic is a bit differen' than what yer are use to dealin' with."
"Yeah," Black Star agreed. "Shinigami-sama specifically instructed us not to kill any of you. He says your souls aren't corrupt like most of the witches we get back in Death City." The casual tone of Black Star took Hagrid and Snape by surprise. They looked truly disturbed. Hagrid glanced nervously at Snape and then back to his list.
"Black Star," Maka hissed, glaring at him from across the table. Sometimes, that big mouth habit of his really got in the way.
"E-erm... movin' on..." Hagrid stuttered. "Dumbledore also wanted yeh to know that movin' about freely though the school won' be a problem, although he would ask that yeh don' disrupt the classes unless there is need."
Black Star and Soul exchanged looks, an exchange that went unnoticed by the rest of the party. "Be cool", Soul whispered, nodding to himself.
"Also," Snape said, speaking for the first time, other than when he introduced himself. "Please refrain from scaring the students. I most definitely will not feel like dealing with them later."
Author's Note
Updated Note: 090518: I hate trying to write Hagrid's dialog. I know it isn't terribly consistent and probably hurts to read. Apologies on that point...
- Old Note Below -
Thought this was as good a place to stop as any. A few things for readers if they are curious.
I am slowly updating this work. So that means YES, I am planning on finishing it eventually. I started this back in 2011 when I was still a Junior in Highschool. Needless to say life happened and I lost my motivation to write. It's slowly coming back, so please bear with me.
To those who have waited patiently all this time I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
New readers! Please feel free to let me know your thoughts. I also apologize to all if my writing style past chapter 8 changes. It's been a while...
Also, please note that because there are so many characters involved in this fanfiction each chapter will likely only focus on one or two groups, so if your favorite character(s) doesn't show up for a little while I apologize. I think this is the best way to not get confused.
Lastly, I doubt Crona will make an appearance. Perhaps towards the end. There are already so many to keep track of. Sorry for the disappointment!
Until next time!
